Why would u use skype to call a partyline
people hardly would hear u...

Skype is really shitty on shitty internet connections and really awesome on awesome internet connections.  I have an awesome internet connection and Skype sounds about 100 times better than a POTS line.

unless they improved it in the last year - i would have to disagree with you... i was running skype on a dedicated P4 with 2 GB ram, and winXP stripped down to only needed software/drivers, on a 30/5 cable modem connection using a Dlink DPH-50U telephone adapter (to connect a POTS phone) and the quality was horrible... magic jack had much better quality, and at a lower cost...

Yeah, when I try to call certain partylines from MagicJack, I get a MJ message saying, "You're not allowed to call this number from MagicJack.  Instead, call OUR conference number!"   That's gotta be illegal.

That's weird about your Skype issues, but mine works great on my PC and my Mac.

well with all of the other methods of free calls now i have not used skype, and my MJ expired a while ago... its all about google voice now, especially since you can fail ANI...

That probably has a lot to do with them routing the calls through random rural exchanges that charge like five times the amount of normal to terminate calls, but it's still pretty ridiculous since I don't think that constitutes a pay number and that's all I see anything in their TOS about.
