"Porting" your number to Google Voice / Grandstream
« on: November 08, 2009, 09:12:15 PM »
I figured I'd give this a shot and it worked as-expected but I figured I'd share anyways.

If you have a Google Voice account, you can forward your cellphone's number to your Google Voice number using your cellphone's menu, and then tell Google Voice to forward incoming calls back to your cellphone, and everything works as it should, and is transparent to anyone trying to contact you.  I tried it to see if some sort of infinite loop would crash the internet, but ended up finding something quite useful.

Give it a shot!

and how is it that it worked as expected?

forwarding the cell number > GV > cell number seems like it would end up just dumping the call into one of the voice mails, and never ring the phone...

i set up my cell phone to forward unanswered, or rejected calls to GV, then it loops back to my cell phone once before dumping the call into my GV voice mail...

i can not see how forwarding all calls would work the same??
