Emulators and roms
« on: December 20, 2008, 09:23:02 PM »
Can't see a board for general emulator gaming, let's get some likes and dislikes here.  Reccomendations for emu's and games plox.

I'll start.  PSX, Dragon Warrior/Quest VII, any fans?

Sparky is a decent newb. I'm not just saying that because I'm related to him either.

Well, your first problem was using Vista.

I don't have a computer fast enough to support a PSX emulator at a decent speed. I do, however, have NES, SNES, N64, and GBA games to amuse me during class or while I'm drinking.

right.  i'm running ePSXe on a POS compaq with 512 of ram.  if you've got a decent nvidia or geForce then the playstation emu should be all right.  i'm playing a ripped mod of Super Mario 64 on the ePSXe that's kind of amusing.  Some guy made this rom called Uber Mario PSX (no link, sorry) in which he changed the appearance of the toons, making mario a duke nukem-like character, goombas are like the boss from the original metroid.  and the shrooms look like little crack rocks.

I've spent a fair amount of time playing around with emulators. I like the recent trend of adding extra functionality to certain systems. By this I mean things like UberNES and lua scripting for FCEUX. Also the multiplayer hack for F zero seems pretty cool.

I checked out UberNES and it runs a lot smoother than other emulators I have tried, thanks.

Does 7 have the same problem with running DOSBox & other emulators or do I need to dual boot back to xp for them?

You should be able to run ZSNES, as it was published as a Win32 and not a DOS application. For NES, I have found that JNES runs well, except there is slowdown when running in full screen (unless you have a decent graphics card). Never before have I said you need a decent graphics card to play Nintendo.

So I found some old Atari floppies, but for some crazy reason they won't run on my computer. I have a functioning floppy drive, but when I put them in they don't autorun. I start them up, and it says "The disk in drive B is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" Now I may not be the most computer savvy gent around, but I know what that means. Is there some kind of emulator thingy I can download to make the darn thing work? All I need is some sort of program to read the floppies. I gotta get my Warlock: The Avenger on.

kwantamphlux: It seems to me, although I have no experience emulating the AtariST, the Hatari is the go to emulator. For games little green desktop seems like a good site that is still updated. as far as I can tell you cannot use you existing floppies with any emulator, but most games have been dumped and are posted on various rom sites. Some of these games look pretty cool and I'll have to delve into the ST scene a bit more when I have some time.
