Apocalyptica
« on: September 27, 2006, 10:44:53 AM »
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZSO59yTSW-I

I just discovered them and their genre of music(Cello rock). I'm loving this, it has the texture of rock and wonderful melodies of the cello and other stringed instruments. And this band, Apocalyptica, does a great job at combining these two with great results.

Has anyone here ever heard of this band or this type of music? I can't believe I'm just now discovering this, I wish I had found about this sooner.

What do you think of this music? Like it? Hate it? Tell me what you think.

Also check out their verison of Metallica's 'The Unforgiven'

Its absolutely amazing.

Meh. I don't like Metallica all too much in the first place, so that makes it hard to get into cello-rock versions of Metallica. The stringed versions of Tool are pretty sweet, though.

Cursive does it better by just implementing cello into their music the first time around and using it like a regular instrument instead of just using it for color (like many bands do with violins)

I've listened to them for a while. As far as I know, there isn't much else like them. Their less heavy-metal songs (eg, Beyond Time, Romance, etc.) are far better than the remakes of Metallica or other works. Heavy-metal, well, sucks anyway, but even Apocalyptica's better metal gets tiring after a while.

Hearing a heavy metal guitar solo on a cello made it all worth it.  They were okay.  I'm not crazy about Metallica's last 15 years or so.

Wow... this thread has nothing to do with the PLA.

I've had "Inquisition Symphony" for several years... they also cover Faith No More + Sepultura.  I knew they had more... have to check out Beyond Time and Romance.  Metallica hasn't had anything good since they went redneck.

I've played piano all my life + guitar half my life... I have many songs from movies, video games, and old classical stuff.  If you all are into the metal/classical stuff you might like Yngwie Malmsteen, Danny Elfman, Savatage + Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Peccatum, Therion... a lot of it's from Europe.  Wish they were bigger here instead of fake music like American Idol.  Last night I started arranging the theme from "Angel."  If anyone is interested in good piano sheet music, PM me.

Yngwie = awesome.

Incidentally, I'd be interested in your sheet music for your Angel arangement.  I'd like to see how close it is to my version.
May the forces of evil become confused on the way to your house.

I play da bass geetar and make synth songs on ma compie. I listen mostly to Black Metal, but it seems I'm only capable of writing happy forest-inspired songs. Working on a song right now called "Frog and Toad in the Marsh in Autumn." It's unbelievably marshy!

I've made some electronica songs.

  Here's one of them: http://rapidshare.de/files/35386059/Bounced.mp3.html

Yeah yeah I know we're no longer living in the 80s.

interesting ...
my cello teacher when i was in high school used to electric up her cello and jam out with some rock band.  but you know, in a bluesy sort of way as we lived in the mountains.  its always cool to hear about cellos, one of the more difficult instruments to take on an airplane.

I haven't messed with it since Sunday night, it's still in handwritten form... I'll show it to you soon.  Besides, today might be the worst day of my life.  My brother has totally f**ked me on a bunch of money, I'm out a few grand, I might have to sell some of my tech and become a recluse for awhile.  I don't know what I'm going to do right now.  IT'S MY SCANNER.  Sorry.
