Dick's Sporting Goods
« on: April 13, 2011, 04:06:08 PM »
There is a Dick's Sporting Goods in my mall, and they have phones around the store on poles.  What is the code to get onto the intercom for these phones?  I've googled it and can't find anything, but is there a way to find out how I could use to to access the intercom with one of these phones?

it would really depend on what extension that the overhead paging is connected to the PBX...

i would start with finding out what type of phone system/paging system that they have and checking the manuals to see if there is a default extension...

i just did a service call on an overhead paging system that i recently set up today for the VoIP provider that I work for... all of our customers paging extensions are the same triple digit number (but we could technically set it to whatever extension that we wanted)

if there is no default extension for the system that they use, or if the default extension does not work you can always try asking customer service to page someone for you in the store, and watch what number that they dial (although there might just be a speed dial button on their phone...

Pick up a phone and dial some random department.  When they answer say, "Oh, I'm sorry, I was trying to reach the overhead paging." and then ask them how to do it.  If they ask, just say you're a new employee.

Haha no I figured someone might be out there who's worked there, and might know the code.  But I've got a list of Dick's numbers I'm gonna call w/ *67 (hopefully one will have dumb enough employees to tell me how to make an announcement).  If that fails, I'll take a look at the phone's brand and info next time I'm there.

*UPDATE*
Many of them said that they didn't know, among other things.  The only three employees that have told me have all said different (yet similar) codes (#60, *60, & *70).

Following instructions from an employee I'd called, I tried it and it worked today. After pressing "intercom" and "page", I was patched in. I only tried it as a test (no prank), because the store is relatively small and it would be pretty risky.

So anyway, if I were to call the store connecting to a department, how could a friend pickup my call? These phones are all around the store (sometimes ringing), but is there something special that would need to be done to get connected to the incoming caller? I'm hoping this store might have their intercom remotely accessible, so that a friend could transfer me in.
