QR Code prank
« on: March 09, 2012, 04:26:17 PM »
Believe or not it's quite easy to make your own QR codes. There's a website called http://www.qrstuff.com/ You can make any type of QR code. An embedded url, a YouTube video or just plain text.

An idea is to make some and stick them over existing QR codes on stuff you find at Walmart or other places. If there's one on a poster in Taco Bell, make a code that will open the video of the PLA Taco Bell Takeover. Use the same thing at Walmart and link it the PLA Harassing Customers on Black Friday video. Or make some weird as hell videos and make a QR code for it and stick it on a couple products. The possibilities are endless. Think of this as a high tech form of sign hacking.

I made a text-based QR code with an ad for the PLA website. Just scan with your phone.

That's an awesome ad, but I know some phones have trouble scanning those things when you put too much data into them.  My iPhone was always a pain in the ass with QR codes, but my Android reads them all perfectly.

I wonder how many people actually scan those things.  I know a ton of people own smartphones now, but it seems like the average person would never bother to even download a QR code scanner.  Whenever I need to check out info on a product in a store, I'll usually type in the information manually into the Amazon or eBay apps to get reviews and stuff.  Scanning a code in a store guarantees that you'll be taken to the actual product page where only nice things are said about it.

I love the idea of haxing QR codes in stores, but I have my doubts about them ever getting used.

I have a Motorola ATRIX 2 and the built in ATT scanner was a pain to scan the QR code, but I downloaded another app that did it almost instantly.

Normally I don't even think about scanning the codes that I see IRL, but I did recently scan the Taco Bell box to win the psp. I like the idea of messing with those but it would be more of an "Easter Egg" hunt or something fun, funny or cool to the one in a thousand that scan them. We could start an underground movement, using these codes to pass messages that the general public would never see or understand. Finally our plans of world domination can come to fruit! AN-AR-CHY!! AN-AR-CHY!! AN-AR-CHY!!

I need to run for now.. time to take my meds...

Jesus Fucking Christ! Are you an idiot or just trying to be funny?

I think we need to post a few test ones to see how many people actually scan them. Someone could link it to their website and see how many site visits come from the QR codes. That would work right? QR codes would shop up as an external link on the site right?
