So I've got this "Butt Set"

An old phoneguy friend of mine just quit his job, he gave me one of his "Butt Sets" as he calls it, which is this yellow phoneguy phone.  It is a Fluke TS-22A.  I looked it up on their site and it seems like a pretty good model, with lots of bells and whistles, and speakerphone.

Is it worth even trying to play with this thing, or would I just get in trouble?  Maybe I should just sell it to one of you guys.

Fred, if you are thinking about selling/giving away, I'm a phone/computer tech at a university. In our department, the budget has been cut, so less than half the techs have access to a butt set and I'm forced to use a beige box which isn't sufficient for a lot of the tests I have to do. I would be more than happy to send you what money I can for it.

So are you saying that I would probably get arrested if I tried to use it?

I'm not sure if I want to get rid of it, but if I do, I'll definately check here first.

How would you get arrested?  Does it have some kind of tracking feature in it?

I saw on your site that you have one not unlike mine, rbcp, except yours is red.

I guess I'll play around with it and see what I can come up with.

No, you will not get in trouble because you have a butt set. Owning a butt set if perfectly legal, as well as using it to test phone lines and equipment that you own or have permission to test. You will only get in trouble if you use it to access other people's lines and stuff. Actually, Jameco sells butt sets to anyone who wants to buy one.
