PLA/UPL Fone Directory

It's been a long time, maybe we should compile a new one for the new Millenium.

There are some numbers in the old directoroy that could still work. You could try and get some volunteers to go through the numbers and call them with whatever free voice over IP they are using. If you can get ten or fifteen people and assign them sections of the current directoroy it would take little time to go through the whole thing and see which numbers still work. Hint: None of the faxback numbers do. Then you could get other members of the forum to e-mail you new numbers to add the the list. All you'd have to do after that is to either host it yourself or find someone that would.

My suggestions for finding volunteers would be to have them post in forums and to e-mail the respective "leaders" of individual state PLA sites so that you get numbers from all over the country.

I think legal problems are the reason there is not a directory anymore other then the old upl ones, probably the same reason you cant post phone numbers anymore.

rbcp doesnt want to get sued.

Why not just PM them around, or email? Once completed it could be put on a dozen or so filesharing places, there's no way they'd ever catch us muwahahahhahah...

BinRev has a really great thread on cool phone numbers in their forums.  It's here:

http://www.binrev.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4081

The thing about doing a phone number list, is that there's already three pay phone lists, so there's really no reason to put pay phones in the directory.  The Loser List portion of the directory is what caused me grief for years after the directories were released so I wouldn't want to include those.  And that BinRev thread seems to have the "cool numbers" covered.  So why bother?  What could we add to a phone number directory that hasn't already been done?

I like the fact that there are elevator phones in the list that you provided there, Brad.

That's awesome, thanks arbie. I wasn't aware that payphones could still even get incoming calls, none of the ones in my city seem to, even the old Centaurians.

Maybe there should be a shout box type thing for phone numbers, so each one kinda gets rotated off after a day or two, just up long enough for a few "Cactus?" calls.

would eliminate the need for a loser list, but still let everyone have a little fun.

Bored?? Why not check the cactus list?

We need a loser list. But I don't want to host it, nor does Arbie, or any other semi-sane person I can think of. Or any insane ones either, for that matter.

Why not just spoof your ip and put it on geocities or something? Put the list on the index page and you're done. Everyone copies it and if it get's deleted it doesn't matter because somebody will have it.

How do you propose that the numbers be compiled into a list?

Sidenote: Is there some sort of free wiki-hosting service out there that could be used, or someone who wants to collect them via PM and make one file out of them?

I'm still trying to find a host that will allow me to install SMF for free and not suck. A wiki isnt a bad idea. Or maybe just like a guestbook type deal for people to just post numbers into. I'm sure any kind of free host would let you have one and it would probably be mostly undetected as long as no one does anything stupid.

I found a decent one. The new "temporary address" is http://unnamedforum.byethost7.com/SMF11/index.php. It's allowed me to install everything I've needed to use including SMF, a few games, and some mods to make it more secure and better looking. I'm not sure when exactly we'll get to moving into unnamedforum.com but we're really working hard on it.

Does anyone know if the YAPL is still active?  I've got seven phones in the queue and they've been there for days now.
