So, call me a n00bl3t, but I'm having difficulty with beige boxing.  I built my box to spec, and I went out to practice on my own TNI.  Apparently, when I had the phones rewired some years ago, they put a newer TNI on the house where the terminals aren't accessible by taking off the nut.  They replaced the standard 3/8" nut with a keyed Torx screw that requires a special bit to open.  They're called Tamper-Proof Torx, and the last time I had to take one off, I used a fucking Dremel to cut it off.  Should I expect most TNI's to be bolted this way, or should some older homes still have the 3/8" bolt hiding the terminals?

Take your screw driver jam it in the hinges an rip those off, then rip it off where the screw is.

99.9% of the TNI boxes in my neighborhood are like this however my community is somewhat new. (1999-2000)

the tni marks the spot where the outside loop starts.  anything in the outside loop is out of bounds for plain citizens.  dont fsck with it, it's illegal.  the customer side of the demarc is accessible with a plain screw driver. anything in your house you can use, and thats it.

DUH!  Beige boxing is a crime!  I fuckin' know that.  I'm just saying that Ma Bell got a bit smarter, and asking how to defeat it!

They sale the bits for those at hardware stores. Just look for security bits.
also I've gone to machine shops with an allen wrench and told them that my buddy was working on my car and put a couple of those on it, and I got them to grind a slot in the middle of the allen wrench to fit them.

On a related note I'm considering building a beighbox into a small (I'm hoping pocket sized) case with a headset jack, spring-loaded alligator-clip retractor, and a button for pulse-dialing. This should be pretty tiny, I'm even dispensing with the keypad so I'll have to pulse dial (nothing says 1337 like pulse-dialing!).
