Now that I've got the new drive in hand my other question is to ask another sales representative knew if they sold the caddy for said hard drive. Now I understand there are external caddies for these drives and I understand this full well. Common and basic knowledge. I run into another Geek Squad guy, figure he would know ( they also refused me employment for Geek Squad because they said I didn't have any sort of technical back ground ) due to him being an esteemed employee of Geek Squad. "Hey, do you guys sell the caddy for laptop hard drives?" A simple an inquisitive question as to procure the items I need for my future task at hand.
"What are you talking about?" At this point in time I figured that caddy may not be a universal word at all. "You know, that small metalic tray that wraps around the hard drive so you can put it into the laptop? Also, do you guys sell the SATA connector for the drive it self?"
I've only swapped out hard drives for Dell laptops and they always involved an extra connection piece for the EIDE or SATA connections. Figured that was universal because someone before said it was a universal standard to require a connection pieace.
"You can't change the hard drive in a laptop. At all."
"Exscuse me?"
"Yeah, once the hard drive's in there, it's in there."
"Uh..."
"But we can do it for you, it would cost 40 bucks all around just about. You also have to buy another copy of Vista or XP, or you can give us a disc if you already have one because we can't give a system back without an OS on it."
At that point in time my anger kept raising but I figured I'd had a three-thousand credit limit and I was willing to pay if it meant me getting an extra caddy and just having them install my OS of choice at the time which was Fedora.
"Fine. Whatever. Instead of Vista or XP I'm gonna go to my car, I've got Fedora on a DVD and I'm going to need you to install that."
"Uh, what's Red Hat? Are you talking about Vista?"
"Nope. Fedora is Fedora."
"I don't understand, are you talking about an operating system or...?"
"It's a Linux distrobution. Fedora linux."
"We can't do that, and unfortunately no matter how hard you try you can't do it either. You see how all of the laptops in here except for the Mac's have that Made For Windows sticker on it below the keyboard? That means they would only work on Windows Vista and Windows Vista only, plus any upgrades that are released."
