Tech: Timex Datalink USB watch. The Timex USB watch is one of the cooler gadgets I've acquired over the past couple months. Not only does it do everything you would expect a digital watch to do (Timers, Stopwatch, Alarms ect.) but They have an open source coding language, so lots of user submitted "Apps" can be loaded on as well. It might come across as gimmicky at first, but it actually can be quite helpful to have tools like this on your wrist.
Features: (including downloaded apps)
-3 Time zones
-Indiglo back light
-Chronograph
-Countdown Timer
-Interval Timer
-Schedules (via outlook or timex program)
-Scientific Calculator
-Unit Converter (really great)
-Notes
-Weather Underground 7 Day weather forecast
-Contacts
-Etch-E-Sketch Game
-BlackJack
and up to 200 customized Alarms
The Calculator app You can only have up to 15 apps on the watch at any time, but sometimes you will find a "pack" that contains multiple apps, yet takes up only one slot. The main interface with the watch is through the
click-wheel AKA crown (heh don't sue me apple) which can scroll up and down. There are two buttons on the side, Mode and Stop, as well as the START/LAP button on the front, that are also utilized by programs.
The watch is water resistant, but I have heard opening and closing the back (battery access) the wrong way has the potential to break this seal. If you have a hard test coming up in math or any other subject, you can utilize the calculator or the notes feature to get a little "advantage." The teachers will just think you want the class to be over sooner. The weather feature is great too, and updates via weatherunderground.com.
Pros:
-Store useful information
-Comfortable
-Inexpensive (for what you get)
-Easy to use PC interface
-Apps are free
-Cheat on tests!
-Fairly rugged design
-Big Display - Easy to read
Cons:
-Can occasionally crash because of buggy apps (reset involves removing battery [dumping the RAM])
-only 64 K of storage, and up to 15 apps
-Indiglo only stays on when holding the button in, unless in "night-mode"
-The face might scratch in the future
-The CD it came with is one of those mini-discs and they annoy me.
It also has this seemingly useless feature...
