Cell Phone Registration
« on: April 01, 2007, 09:51:55 PM »
I bought an older (Samsung SPH-A660) cell phone at a garage sale and registered it for thirty dollars with the local phone company in my own name for the time being. Now I want to get it set up with a bogus name and information to get a basically secure and disposable line to forward things to, record TTY calls off, ect.

Should I just call up the company and change the information (name, address, ect.) or should I shell out another 30 bucks to re-register it just to be safe?

You should tell them you sold it and that the person will be calling to register soon. Then call back later and register it. You'll have to shell out the thirty bucks but it'll be worth it. If you just call them and tell them to change the information there's an easy trail to follow. If you tell them you sold it, you could always say you sold it on the web and you can't find the envelope the person sent the money in. Maybe you could op divert too. Just in case they keep record of who calls them.

Not at all. How would you recommend I go in and register it again, aside from having a friend pose as the mysterious buyer (since I'll have to pay again).

They would recognize you? If the clerks or whatever know who you are I would suggest trying to pay over the phone. If you can use a prepaid credit card then that's all well and dandy, otherwise I would see if you can mail them a money order or something with the fake name you intend on using. Having a friend pose as the mysterious buyer might work, but I'm thinking if you have to do register it in person you might have to have some sort of identification.

Yeah the prepaid card is a grand idea. I didn't need any ID last time, I don't even remember why I gave real information in the first place.

Where did the n00bs come from? I mean, I'm happy we're attracting new users but why all the trolls and nubbish behavior?

If you're wanting anonymity, why not just go buy one of those cheap phones at 7-Eleven or similar place, and recharge with prepaid cards?

The rates don't seem to be that horrible anymore...

Tmobile seems to be the best deal around here for prepaid sims. Drop 100 bucks into it to become a gold member and there are no recurring fees. 100 bucks gets you something like 1000 minutes, and as a gold member your minutes last up to a year from your most recent addition of minutes. If I didnt have an unlimited + all featured cingular account for free this is most likely what I would use.

I don't know about Sprint, which is what Samsung phones are designed for, however at Cingular we note every call that comes in with:

1.  The name of the person
2.  The phone number of the person calling
3.  If we were able to get into the account / the costumer was able to confirm his identity
4.  Any changes that were made

there is enough room for the last 10 notes, and 3 "high-priority" notes (thoes are notes that are always at the top).  So even if you change all of your information, your name will be in the note section of the account because you will have to confirm your identity.

I would recomend getting a cheap prepaid cell phone if you want an anonomous line.

you fucking liar asshole Samsung phones are made for all bands INCLUDING CINGULAR - SO FUCK OFF GET OUT OF OUR FORUMS
FUCKING FEDERAL AGENT.  c417 for example. Tachyon, you only need to disassociate the phone with your name thats all, to do so i mean dont just stop paying for the bill, you actually have to call and say you bought a new phone, and to deactivate the old one.  THEN you can get the phone turned back on with your false id. man, that really pissed me off. Cingular is a piece of shit,  And i am glad that its called AT&T again.
