What numbers do you call when you beige box? What numbers would be fun to call when beige boxing?Beige boxing is great for calling numbers that you can't normally call. Like 900 numbers! Get some psychic readings and have some expensive phone sex. Bring a list of county and city codes with you and call random foreigners. Whatever you do, don't dial 911. Complete anonymity is no excuse for screwing with emergency services.
What is a brown box?A very quick Google search will tell you that it's bridging two phone lines together to create a 3-way call.

How come?Cordless phone bases require power and it's not always easy to find a place to plug in your cordless phone base. Sure, batteries would work but they wouldn't last very long. It's been done before. It just not very practical.
On the standard (well, I think standard) TNI box there is a panel that reads "TELCO ACCES ONLY." What is in this part of the TNI box?Just wires going to the customer side of the box. That side is pointless and uninteresting.
I read somewhere about a phreak doing research about how the phone system works at a university library. Can something like this be done today? If so, where would I start looking?Libraries have information on everything, so yeah. Any library will have information on phones and phone systems. Search their computer for "telecommunications" or "phone company." Google probably has more useful information, though.
What is a "loop"?A loop is a set of 2 phone numbers. You dial one of the phone numbers and someone else dials the other one. Then both of you can talk to each other. It's pretty much the same as a party line, but only two people can be on at once. Loops aren't as common as they used to be but I'm sure there are still some out there.
