easier beige box
« on: June 25, 2007, 05:05:45 PM »
i'm sure people have tried this.  but does anyone use this technique.  take a in line coupler and crack in half cut the black and yellow wires of and strip the green and red then put aligator clips on them and then just carry it around with a and connect any phone to it and the TNI.   state your opinions on the idea?

Couplers don't have any wires to strip...

Rather take an extra phone cord, strip the one end, attach clips and then connect the end with the RJ11 to the coupler and the phone to the other side of the coupler.

That's not an easier beige box. That's just a beige box with a completely useless coupler.

You're talking about one of these, correct?

Edit: I see what you mean, some of the more expensive type of couplers do have wires, most of mine are el cheapos that just have straight lead contacts the whole length.

Couplers are so small and tightly boxed that it would be pretty useless to have wires in there. Probably just metal on metal. Even if they do use wires, you would have to be a Lvl. 129 wirestripper to get them to survive, they'd be so short.

But think for a second, here: in-line couplers are female/female. They are meant to join two male plugs. Beige boxing does not involve joining male plugs, you have no reason to use one! In fact, your idea is worse than the common design because it requires more materials and much more difficult assembly (have you ever tried getting into a coupler?).

now you see what i mean. i am sure there are different types of couplers but the type that i found in my house had wires. the wires were scrunched up in the boc thats how it fit frog.  and i just used a lighter and dabbed it in the fire then took it out.  then did it again.  i scraped of the ash and there was the aluminum.

some might think its harder but its actually too damn simple to me.  hmph maybe its just my opinion.  gangals and frog do you have aol message me.

Yours is a waste of a coupler and phone cord. The best analog to this would be an equation. Cf,

normal: y = mx + b
yours:   y = mx + (5 - 5) + b

good one frog.  i thought it was easier because you can just bring your small coupler with aligator clips connected and just use a friends phone if you go phreaking with someone.

The idea is actually pretty good...but your method, as frog quite brilliantly illustrated mathematically, is quite pointless.

My suggestion: hunt down one of those 'phone extension cords' they have at many hardware stores with a male RJ11 on one end and a female on the other. Castrate cut off male end and attach your gators.

Or, if you want an actual beige box, get a surface-mount phone outlet and attach some leads to it.

Heres an idea: forget the coupler or extension cord and all of that. Take a spare male-male rj11 cord and clip and strip one end. attach aligator clips to one end. Put this in your car. When you feel the need to phreak, steal a phone from a lobby of some establishment and plug your pre-made cable into the modular plug. Clip and Call. This eliminates bulk in the cable.

It will look like:

rj11 on phone-------clips
versus
rj11 on phone-----coupler/extension----clips

for those who still dont get it: you make a seperate cable and plug it in when you need it, just like the coupler idea, but far more convenient and low profile, let alone easier, and will work on any phone with a modular female jack.

just like the coupler idea

Yeah, but the coupler idea was stupid, and I seem to remember driving today and yesterday and last year...
