Access via VoIP?
« on: June 30, 2007, 08:15:39 PM »
Hi, Can anyone tell me how to access teh PLA voice bridge via VoIP? (SIP)?.

I'd also be interested in Bells Mind.

I've enjoyed participating in TelePhreak chat and I'd like to try these other two but being in Oz I'd like to avoid using the PSTN.

TNX,
Ken

Well...you dial the number? It's pretty much the same as with a normal phone.

The bridge doesn't have a direct SIP IP you can connect to, just a phone number.

Thats a shame. It would be so handy for people interested that are over sea's.

PSTN rates can be quiet expensive when ringing abroad. And considering the theme of the site it does seem a little behind the times not to be offering VoIP access. :(

Also I did try via PSTN a couple of times and everyone complaned that my audio was too quiet to be heard. :(

I couldn't find any volume controlls within the conference via the DTMF keypad, so yet another dead end. :(

OH Well. See what happens.

Well if you're worried about being ripped off by telco, you can always do what I do when I'm away from home and want to call the bridge and let GOOG-411 do it for you.

vk4akp isn't located in the US so it wouldn't work for him unless he already made an international call.

Actually I have worked out how to get on free using GOOG-411 from Australia.

But I would get a much better call quality if I could ring direct via VoIP.

Everyone says I'm too quiet via GOOG-411.

They also don't believe that I'm in Australia. It's soooo funny!

I'm in Canada and it works fine for me.

same here but some time ago we merged our toll free number's so a company would only require one for both country's. I know in the UK their toll free number is 0800 and 08004664411 does in fact not work.

It would be awesome if someone with skype unlimited automated it so that any calls coming into it, were added to a conference with the bridge. Then just add the skype in line to goog411 and then distribute the skype username on the forums etc.
