Firefox
« on: July 18, 2007, 03:17:58 AM »
I was exploring Firefoxes security features and I realized I could set a Master Password. By setting the master password it enabled me to see all the saved passwords on the computer. Some I had totally forgotten.  I suspect lots of fun could be had by accessing a friends, or anyones puter (running firefox) and gathering all the pw's.

tools < options < security < use master password < show password
thats all it takes to own someone using firefox.....

You don't have to set a master password, you can view them without one.

A while back I lost all my passwords and bookmarks when FF updated.  I lost several pw's and tried forever to recover them and I couldnt.  The view password button wasnt even enabled till I put in a master password. Is this different with different versions of Firefox?

If you ever need to transfer your FF profile to another computer(or if you are going to reload), just copy all the files in

Code: [Select]
C:\Documents and Settings\USER-NAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\RANDOM-LETTERS-AND-NUMBERS.default
and paste them back when you load FF.

Yeah wow that's really secure...I wish there was a password on that password list.

That's what the master password is for.

It works on MacOS 10.4, but I'm not sure why you need the redundancy: Mac has a built-in password storage system (Keychain).
Really really handy...I somehow lost everything in Safari and when I moved to FireFox, all my passwords were still there. Because, honestly, I've forgotten a LOT of them.
