Paul Wellstone

Paul Wellstone was murdered. He wouldn't play ball so someone took him out.

[q]Senator Wellstone voted against authorizing the use of force before the Gulf War on January 12, 1991 (the vote was 52-47 in favor). He also voted against the use of force before the Iraq War on October 11, 2002 (the vote was 77-23 in favor)]. Wellstone was one of 11 Democratic senators to vote against both the 1991 and 2002 resolutions. [/q]

[q]In the months before his death Wellstone had voted against several key Bush agendas including Homeland Security, the Iraqi use of force resolution and many of Bush's judicial nominees. In a Senate controlled 50-49 by the Democrats, Wellstone was perhaps the single one-man obstacle to Bush's fervent and stated desire to secure passage of the Homeland Security measure prior to a U.S. invasion of Iraq.[/q]

On October 25, 2002, Wellstone died, along with seven others, in a plane crash in northern Minnesota, at approximately 10:22 a.m.

The charter plane Wellstone was traveling in had no flight data recorders. Both pilots tested negative for drug or alcohol use. Icing was considered and rejected as a significant factor in the crash.

Why kill him well...

Wellstone's death came just 11 days before his potential re-election in a crucial race to maintain Democratic control of the Senate. This is significant because it's so close to election day. Clearly the people who organized this learned from their mistake with Melvin Carnahan. Wellstone's wife would not be running.
