Nintendo DS + Axe + Nitro Tracker + M-06= Best concert ever
« on: October 26, 2007, 05:35:00 PM »
I just gave the first live performance for M is for Moped (previously going under the name Matt is a Goat/Hobo Sex) in over 3 years, and I did it all on my Nintendo DS.

The total set was 4 songs, taking just under 15 minutes. I'm going to record it when I play again on Wed, so I can update my Myspace, but since I'm not on the computer much any more, it's unknown when I'll actually update it.

Set list
1) You're not my mom (performed using M-06 [acoustic guitar simulator])
2) Four Square (Performed using Axeds[synth with pitch/tone controlled on an x/y axis over a groovy bass beat]
3) Some free jamming with Nitrotracker and my viola (I had just set Nitrotracker up and I've yet to get some decent samples, so I was sort of in a pinch)
4) Screaming Infidelities (the Dashboard Confessional song, done [shittily] on M-06 again)

So the concert went pretty swimmingly, but I didn't bring my mic with me, so I had no way to record. I'm going to try to put a couple of tracks down this weekend, depending on my alcohol intake levels.

Not that anyone finds this topic relevant anymore.

Rockin. With motivation, I may yet do a rough one tonight, but I'm also going out to go get my improvised horn supplies and some patch cables.

Don't you do production as well? I seem to remember you linking to a sort of "techno" style instrumental that you had done. Or maybe that was someone else.

Yes, but not very well.

I didn't get to record Friday, so I'm starting right now. Hope to have a link in a few hours.

Holy shit is it hard to record with a DS.

So I lost one of my 3.5 mm adapters, which means I had to plug my DS directly into a monitor and then mic the speaker. Sorry for the not so fantastic sound that resulted.

http://www.myspace.com/misformoped

You're not my mom - Recorded using theChuckster's tr909 demo, all tracked live (that's why there's so little variation; it's very hard to alter a drum pattern live) and M-06 for guitar. The DS was mic'ed using a Sony 3.5 mm digital recording mic, and my vocals were done using the mic off of a "voip ready" headset that I got at school.

Fishtank Duet - Meant to be an aliatoric duet between vibraphone and French Horn. I don't have either instrument, so I used Electroplankton and a garden hose with one end pushed through a trash can. Sorry for the ratty sound on the "horn"; there is nearly 20 feet of hose to blow through, and by the time I got the audio situation squared away, my lips were nearly shot from all the previous takes I did. Listen for some lip trills and multiphonics. They don't come out nearly as well as on a real instrument, but they're still there. All mic'ed using that voip headset.

The "monitor" on both is actually just one of those home speaker sets for an mp3 player/cd player. I like to take it with me for when I can't hook up to a PA, or if I'm just practicing and need to hear what I'm playing.

Let me know what you think.

Well, I'm glad it's enjoyed. I guess I have motivation to record more.

I'll shoot for one track a week, or something. I may find storage space for music, though.

A track a week? That's pretty productive. I've been doing maybe a track every two weeks and it's been difficult. Of course, I have to find my instrumentals and put hooks on most of them where you make all your instrumentals (And in some cases the instruments.)

I also have 5 albums worth of material written, some of which was recorded using pretty out-dated methods. I have at least 10 songs I can do with m-06, 3 more ideas for instruments, and 4 untapped programs (including a very nice tracker-style sequencer).
Mind you, a lot of the stuff will be "free-jam" style music, but there's nothing wrong with that. Who knows; eventually I may get good at it.
