what's the best VoIP program to use to acess the bridge?
« on: January 08, 2008, 11:31:20 PM »
untill i can get my hands on a hacked cell phone that doesn't cost me a dime i am going to need to find cheap free alternatives for calling various places, such as the PLA voice bridge. I was just wondering if anyone knew of a free VoIP program i might be able to use to make free phone calls.

Skype or FWD (as they allow free "skype-out" to toll-free numbers) + Google-411 (city & state = Cincinnati, Ohio, business name = Phone Losers of America).

so you can have goog411 connect to the bridge and not have to pay long distance fees?

Why don't you try it first and tell us if it works.

goog411 is an 800#. So it should be safe to assume its a free call, goog uses bandwidth.com to forward the calls. What I have noticed is that goog411 has lately been busy or unavailable, maybe there's an influx of people turned on to this service. It's nice to use this service if you want to do three-way calls on the bridge, I haven't yet figured out a way to conference a third person via VOIP on the bridge.

@gangals
you mentioned in an earlier post on this thread something called FWD? can you provide a full name to this service? I'd like to try it out. Thanks.

I've been trying to figure out the same thing since Skype doesn't allow you to conference in the same number twice. I think the answer may be a second 800 number that allows you to dial out or works similarly to GOOG411 but I haven't found one yet. I'll let you know if I find anything if you'll do the same.
I HATE the bridge.

I'm gonna double post here and kick myself for it so you don't have to but I think I found a service that works much like GOOG411 called 1-800-FREE411 (1-800-373-3411). We need only be registered with them and we're good to go. Does anyone have all the information used to register the PLA with GOOG411? Then we (Those of us who use Skype and Goog411 to connect to the VB.) could occasionally conference in a business for pranking purposes.
I HATE the bridge.

I checked out Goog411 site for more information on how they obtain their listings. below is an excerpt:

How do I edit a listing that I see on Google Maps?

If you're a U.S. business owner, and you believe your listing contains errors or inaccuracies, please follow these steps:

   1. Sign in to the Google Local Business Center. If you don't have a Google Account, click Sign up for an account now and follow the instructions.
   2. Return to Google Maps by clicking on the icon in the upper corner of the Local Business Center.
   3. Search for your listing.
   4. Click on the more info link next your listing. This will expand the information window.
   5. Click Add or edit your business under the address and phone number.

If you don't see the more info link next to your listing, right-click on your listing and select Open Link in a New Window. You should then see the link to edit this business information.

If you're not a business owner, but you'd like to edit the location of a business, you can do so by following the instructions at our Google Maps User Guide.

To edit a business with an 'unverified listing' message, you'll need to create an updated listing through the Local Business Center.

It looks like all that's necessary is to just register that information into google map listing, and that's how Google411 aggregate the contact forwarding via goog411. However, I didn't come across any information on the site regarding how they verify this information. If they don't, than any joe schmoe and submit a business listing, which probably isn't the case.

I, aka joe schmoe, already created the business listing for the bridge on Goog411, but when I was scoping out Free411, I didn't see a way to add listings, so I guess they just get their information from the yellow pages.

@gangals
You ain't no joe schmoe so stfu! You 733t h4x0r! ;D

I was on the VB(Visual Basic according to trevelyn) the other day at around noon and someone mentioned it'd be a neat idea to link their GrandCentral(also owned by Google) to a business listing so they'd essentially be getting calls free. I'm wondering if its possible, but if goog11 doesn't aggregate the business listing via user input but rather yellow pages than that pretty much scraps that idea. I'll probably give it a try and report back. Thanks for the info gangals.

I was reading through Free411's site again and I found how to add listings. The only issue is, they don't control the database, they can only advise their providers of changes. As they put it "[information comes] from your local phone provider, who sent it to the regional provider, who sent it to the NDA, who sent it to our providers."

I requested that the bridge be added to the database they use, but it may take up to 90 days for changes to be made, if they are at all.

If it does come online, it's the same information as Goog411:

City/State: Cincinnati, OH
Business Name: Phone Losers of America

Now that I'm thinking of it, if it doesn't get added to the database, I could request a new entry, but make the business name sound like a real business, and still have it forward to the bridge.
