the end of analog TV broadcasts
« on: August 21, 2008, 12:23:05 AM »
I was thinking about this today (the Feb.17th 09 transfer to 100% digital TV)

What do you think will happen with all that analog equipment? Every podunk little TV station in the country will all of a sudden cease using technology that they have been using for 50+ years. Do you think that its possible that this equipment will find its way to the black market, and we'll have pirate TV stations?

Legend brought this up on the bridge the other day.  Well sort of.  His idea is that since analog broadcasts will disappear next year, we should work on setting up some analog pirate TV signals to broadcast to all the little old ladies who don't know about the switch.

I heard that the signals are now going to be used for Police and Fire radio transmissions. I'm not sure exactly what the hell they would need that many extra channels for but I don't care.

Think by flipping through the channels we'll have 40+lb police scanners?

Sure why not, I used to be able pick up cell phone conversations on my tv back in the day by  tuning in the upper uhf channels.

yeah that could be fun. You could take clips of Jeopardy and edit it so every possible question has the same exact answer.

I didn't know that there is already plans to make use of the equipment though

Do you think the laws would lessen or worsen when it comes to hijacking a television frequency? This all sounds fun, but I wonder what the new law would be. After all it's supposedly for police and ambulances and fire-folk.

I of course think they're just shoving a converter box up the asses of old people every where. If you don't have cable you're not going to be watching T.V. anyway.

Then it's a sweet underground thing where internet nerds will all go to grandmas house to watch TV.

there won't be any new laws until anyone actually does something that pisses of the government.

There's just no damn way I could allow unused TV frequencies to just float around with nothing but ambulance bullshit, and no revolutionary anarchist propaganda whatsoever...

Quoted for awesome.

In fact it'd be fun to run episodes of Gargoyles from DVD or any other T.V. show that should still be on. Max Headroom, me playing Final Fight, whatever. A camera focused on a cactus, showing its growth cycle.

When I moved to Texas my girlfriend bought me a cactus. It's about two months old. Every day I try and figure if I'm over watering or under watering when I water it once every one or two weeks. It's still alive. Who knows? Anyway, we could use my cactus as the star.

I want to run an educational show that teaches kids how to produce explosives and psychedelic drugs from common household items.
Huh?
