All the big representative democracies are like that, just varying flavours of bullshit depending on which country.

Honestly, they're right about this. Gibson tried but didn't get a "gotcha". He came off as condescending and she handled it well. While you and I find that talking-point nonsense to be crap, there are plenty of people who are OK with any answer at all that has key phrases that they like, regardless of relevance to the question. She acted like her answers were relevant, which is good enough for all of the dimwits who didn't really understand the question. I think that interview was a boon for her.

I completely agree that there are a lot of morons who will take the bait, but the interview certainly wasn't good for her. She's gotten negative reactions from even the republican base. Sure, there's been some spin to from the base, but the fact that they're not all falling in line behind her as is typical of any republican candidate is pretty telling.

I'm sure it doesn't help her that even Karl Rove, O'Reilly, and Huckabee are quietly calling the McCain camp on their shit now.

Haha, also as a VP nominee, how do you pretend you have no idea what the Bush Doctrine is 7 years after it has become the central tennet of US foreign policy?

Or maybe even more frightening, she actually DOESN'T know?

Maybe I'm not following closely enough, but how are they not falling in line right now? I got the impression that she's a friggin' rockstar.

i was talking about this particular interview, there's mixed reactions from the right about how she came across.

and when Huckabee, Rove, AND O'Reilly are all saying negative things about their campaign, you know something's wrong.

The impression *I've* been getting is that the GOP has not been this unified and energized since Reagan. Here are his two election maps from 1980 and 1984...

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/maps/obama_vs_mccain/?map=18

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/maps/obama_vs_mccain/?map=17

Bear in mind however that Jimmy Carter was probably the biggest failure as president ever. 70% taxes, 20%+ mortgage interest rates and a total inability to act against the rise of radical Islam. Now I don't see any similarities in these 2 election maps and today's presidential election BUT I've also never seen the right so stirred up.

I see no evidence that Sarah Palin can be so easily dismissed. To the contrary, I see the Democrats being FORCED to address what she actually represents to their own party.

Another thing is for sure, high taxes scare the shit outta me!

The impression *I've* been getting is that the GOP has not been this unified and energized since Reagan.

Then why are key figures in the party saying otherwise?

FORCED to address what she actually represents to their own party.

Haha, she hasn't said anything clear about what she represents other than running a dishonest campaign, being a batshit insane christian wacko, and OH HEY I'M A WOMAN VOTE FOR ME. she can't speak of policy because i'm pretty sure she hasn't got any specific policies. she's uninformed about basic political process.

it's clear this was a political gamble for McCain and he wasn't looking out for the best interests of the country. It was a terrible choice, and even though you state the party is unified, many of them disagree and are making it known.

also, complaining about taxes is always the last refuge of the conservatives. well, that and lying about the tax rate. prior to Carter, the top marginal income tax rate was 75% because of Nixon and Ford. Carter actually brought it down 5 points. Not saying Carter was a great president, just pointing out some facts.

... also, you'll never make anywhere NEAR the amount to fall into that tax bracket

(and for people who actually do, there's a billion writeoffs so theyd on't pay anywhere near that amount either)

and as of today, as predicted, Obama is back ahead in the polls.

my guess is he has an easier time maintaining a slight lead than McCain did.
