Your favorite RSS feeds
« on: January 17, 2009, 11:52:14 AM »
I just got one of those e-ink readers from Sony. I got it because I'm always printing out huge PDFs and carrying the paper around. Now I put the PDFs on the reader, and some ebooks and photos and stuff. But then I found this site: www.feedbooks.com . It takes RSS feeds, converts them to ebooks, and automatically syncs them to the reader when I plug it in. It works great and is really convenient.

So I signed up for a few RSS feeds, but I want more. I never really used RSS before so I don't know where all the good stuff is. So far I signed up for these, but some of them kinda suck:

Phonelosers site feed
Wikipedia Featured Articles (http://jeays.net/wikipedia/featured.xml)
The Economists "The World This Week" (http://www.economist.com/rss/the_world_this_week_rss.xml)
BBC World News (http://feeds.feedburner.com/bbcnewsworldfullfeed)
SANS ISC (http://isc.sans.org/rssfeed_full.xml)
CNET Security News(http://news.cnet.com/8300-1009_3-83.xml?tag=rtcol;about)
TaoSecurity (http://taosecurity.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default)
LifeHacker (http://feeds.gawker.com/lifehacker/full)

So what are everyones favorite feeds?

I read RSS feeds all day.  I'm subscribed to 161 feeds via Google Reader and occasionally I share posts that really amuse me, which you can see at this address:

http://www.google.com/reader/shared/17081126155022016204

Quite a few of my shared items are things for my kids, but there's a lot of good stuff in there too.  Look at the blogs they're coming from and you'll find plenty of new feeds to add to your reader.

How much memory does that reader come with?  It's expandable with an SD card right?

i <3 you, sabrebutt!  :D

as for me...i aggregated the RSS feeds of all the hackerspaces' blogs listed on hackerspaces.org, and read them.  since i'm involved with the hackerspace being planned in chicago, it's really cool to keep track of what they're doing, both to see what hackerspaces can be and to get ideas for any kinds of projects i may want to learn about once our space does open in a couple months.

it's a bunch of feeds, but i have an OPML file of all of them which i can send you in case you are interested in adding them to your feed reader...pm me.  the blogs are worth reading if you're at all interested in hackerspaces.

Dear murd0c,

Forget Scuba Steve, you're now the best! But I probably wouldn't hit on you even if I was drunk sorry.

Thanks for your input everyone, I found a some gems. Unfortunately a bunch of feeds seem to be partial-only, which is kinda lame on the reader since you can't follow a link to read the whole article. I didn't realize so many of them were like that.

How much memory does that reader come with?  It's expandable with an SD card right?

It comes with 256MB internally and it'll take an SD card up to 8GB (it used to be 4GB but there's updated firmware that allows newer SD cards). Ebooks are small though and I haven't come close to filling up the 256.

It presents the storage as USB drives too, which is cool because you can store programs and other stuff on it. I made some autorun scripts so that whenever I plug it in, it downloads my google calendar for the next few months and converts it to pictures, and converts my address book to a nice pdf with an linked index.

I hate partial rss feeds a lot.  The nerve of them, forcing me to actually go to their web page.

partial feeds suck...but so do feeds that send every single comment to my rss reader.   just the posts, ma'am.
