[US]How to Hack a Highway Sign
« on: January 24, 2009, 07:05:33 PM »
Recently my friend took up a job for the local highway construction that's been happening around my city. They gave him this information, that should work for nearly the whole U.S.

"DOTS" is the default password. In all likelihood, the crew will not have changed it. However if they did, never fear. Hold
"Control" and "Shift" and while holding, enter "DIPY". This will reset the sign and reset the password to "DOTS" in the process. You're in!

Now you can do whatever you want.

The only problem is if they have a lock on it.

You can find more of this stuff at signhacker.com
Also, from what I've found out, the password can also be "admin" and "22222222" sometimes.

The only problem is if they have a lock on it.

That's not a problem if you know how to use a hammer.

Whats with the strange characters around the words? Censoring yourself? Masking it from the public? My own mediocre attempt at humor has been highly amusing to myself.

Can anyone from Indiana report if INDOT puts lock on there's? I know someone hacked a sign in Carmel to say "RAPTORS AHEAD", but I dunno if they put locks on now or not.

Any ideas as to legalities of all this?  I'm sure its illegal, but what kind of illegal are we talking here?

Careful Nod.  He's just a very clever spambot.

I know this isn't a federal offense, probably just a misdemeanor.

I fixed the formatting of the quotes in the main post.

I know the temptation to put "ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US" up there is overwehelming but you might have a nice "show" if you use one of those signs to direct traffic ONTO the construction zone / tore up road, and see how many people do it.

Then maybe a nice "injury" or "death". And then, a nice "investigation".
