Web Detective Hacking - Where it's gone paper.
« on: February 20, 2009, 01:10:00 PM »
I have been thinking a lot about media and stuff..  Maybe one day If i end up going back to school I can use these papers as if I already did my homework?  Maybe the teachers will google strings from the papers and see them already published.... BY ME. heh.
anyways, There's a lot of philosophy, phsycology, and stuff that surrounds piracy that you may not think of.  I wrote this cos my mind had to, or i would have 'sploded.  If you differ please debate!

I read it all.  Good stuff.  I'm eviler than you, though, since I've used those methods at least a few times to steal music and videos.

I just read the paper, and I'm glad you brought this up. Here's something that falls along the same lines:

Website here - http://creativefreedom.org.nz/blackout.html

Quote from website:

Quote
. . . Join The New Zealand Internet Blackout to protest against the Guilt Upon Accusation law 'Section 92A' that calls for internet disconnection based on accusations of copyright infringement without a trial and without any evidence held up to court scrutiny. This is due to come into effect on February 28th unless immediate action is taken . . .

BTW: I've used one method you wrote about (converting FLV to MP3) when I liked a song in a video. Examples would be the "Hitler Rap" from Whitest Kids U'Know and "Magical Trevor".

But what would somebody who was a moral and upstanding citizen (i.e. not evil) do if they wanted the music from a video, but not the actual video? You raised a lot of good points. Props. :)

i just finished reading it. it didn't take me the entire time... i like to download stuff. i just downloaded an album while i was reading that. if i am stealing profits from record companies and the riaa all the better, they are fuckers. and this way i'm not paying taxes either or letting banks make money off of any loans.

i run a small independent record label.

MP3's are important to me and I definitely thing they lead to more sells for little guys like us. A few of the bands I work with provide their full album online for free in MP3 or OGG format and it doesn't hurt sales.

But I just wanted to throw this out there. I get that RIAA is not worth spending your money on. But a lot of the good music isn't involved with the RIAA. So download all you want and find new great things, but support the stuff you like after you've found it. At least for the little guys that don't have the RIAA to line our pockets.

thank you guys! and that's a cool link magus, i also like the webistes design - very cool.  someone read my paper and said i was trying to say that (here comes her analogy) "It's okay to take stuff out of a guys yard just cos you see it and there's no fence or security"  or something like that.  I said "fuck you" and explained that that would be depriving the owner of the material by depletion.  copying files doesn't deplete anything besides a blip of a blip of a blip... of bandwidth.  mMMMm bandwidth sandwich...

thanks for the replies!  Maybe I can give the paper out to people in law to semi-educate, iunnno, i'm just a guy with a bunch of servers.
