Wow didn't know they were still going, that's definitely them though. I feel bad that I gave them the idea for the mirrors.

Here's PrankNet's latest prank.  I bet you'll never guess what they did!

Hotel Prank Causes $115,000 In Damages

JANUARY 14--A Nebraska Holiday Inn suffered damages in excess of $100,000 this week when a phone prankster posing as a hotel employee convinced a guest to set off a sprinkler system, according to police.

The January 9 hoax targeting the Omaha hotel (pictured at right), which caused significant damage to seven guest rooms and a conference room, is identical to scores of prior calls placed to hotels by members of Pranknet, the online band of phone vandals. The group has often targeted Holiday Inn locations because callers can be directly connected to rooms without needing to know guest names.

In light of the six-figure damages, cops are investigating the prank as a felony, according to Officer Aarion Nielsen, an Omaha Police Department spokesperson. Nielsen added that investigators are actively pursuing leads, which may include tracking telephone records. Holiday Inn staff provided police with the phone number from which the hoax apparently was placed; calls to that number (in California’s 530 area code) are now met with an immediate busy signal.

The Omaha prank began with a call to Room 202, which was occupied by businessman Mark Thomas. Posing as a hotel employee, the male caller told the 47-year-old Thomas that a maid had broken a gas line. Thomas was directed to place wet towels at the base of his door, so that dangerous fumes did not enter his room.

The caller, who claimed to be following Fire Department instructions off a computer, then told him to unplug all electrical devices and open the room’s windows, Thomas recalled in a TSG interview. The hoaxster, he added, was “very self-assured and sounded like he was working from a script.”

An Omaha Police Department report notes that the caller then directed Thomas to “break the red glass vial in the sprinkler.” This was purportedly necessary because the device could hold an electrical charge that could lead to an explosion caused by gas seeping into the room.

Thomas broke the bulb, setting off the sprinkler. As the room filled with water, the caller told Thomas that the shut-off valve was located behind the bathroom mirror, which had to be ripped off the wall. The guest complied, only to discover nothing behind the mirror.

The deluge lasted for about 15 minutes, flooding Thomas’s room and adjoining spaces, as well as causing significant damage (as seen above) to the Holiday Inn’s lone meeting space directly downstairs. Hotel owner Kurt Trivedi told TSG that he believed about 5000 gallons of water flooded the hotel, which he opened in 2009.

Trivedi said an insurance adjuster this week estimated that repairs to the hotel would cost approximately $115,000. The hoax, he said, has cost him the use of seven guest rooms and the meeting space, adding that repairs could take about three weeks.

From Convicted Degenerate Phone Prankster, 20, Arrives At The Big House In Texas

After a brief stay in a county jail, convicted felon James Tyler Markle arrived last week at Texas’s notorious Huntsville prison to begin serving time for a telephone prank.

The freshly shorn Markle, 20, is being held at Huntsville’s Holliday Unit, an intake facility where state inmates are assessed by corrections officials. Markle, seen in the new mug shot at right, could spend up to two years at Holliday before being transferred to his unit of assignment, according to a Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman.

A blubbering Markle--who used the online handle “Prankster” when tormenting victims on the phone--was sentenced in late-November to five years in jail for criminal mischief in connection with a hoax call he placed to a McDonald’s restaurant. Markle was once a leading figure with Pranknet, the notorious confederation of online vandals.

While Markle’s projected release date is in March 2013, he could be paroled as early as this June from Huntsville, Texas’s oldest prison and home to the state’s death chamber.

Five years for a prank call!  Keep this in mind if you ever think making a Dex-like prank call would be hilarious.

I'd never thought of making Dex-like calls as hilarious. Still standing by my ideal that Dex himself is a huge piece of shit and not even that funny, but his victims deserve what they get for not having the common courtesy to think anything out for themselves instead of panicking and doing as told in any given situation, I don't think Dex deserves to be punished. But far from praised, either.

Dex is a prick.

Dex's victims are fucking idiots.

This leads to five years in sing-sing without a condom to call your own.

This article says the same ole stuff about damages and fire alarms in a York, Nebraska hotel this week.  The end of the article says this:  Klug said it’s believed that the 2009 hotel incident in York was prompted by a group from Canada that calls themselves Pranknet (who had been implicated in other cases around the nation, although no charges were ever filed). “But there’s so many different groups out there now, doing the same thing, there’s really no way to know who was behind this latest one.”

Do any of you think that's true?  Are a bunch of spinoff groups really being created that imitate Dex's hotel destruction pranks?  I've never heard of any, but I guess it's possible.  I'd probably think it was complete bullshit if someone hadn't done all that hotel damage in Vancouver, BC a few weeks ago.  Authorities there were blaming "an American" just because the caller ID showed a southern California phone number, but Skype often displays southern California numbers to prank victims.  Would Dex really pull this shit in his own country, though, even if it is in another province?

I think the real question is why he did in US. It's not like he wouldn't get caught and prosecuted for his crimes, guy lives in Toronto, that's not exactly Islamabad or even France. You can throw rocks at America from Toronto. If he really wanted to get away with it, he'd put on a bad UK accent and do it at expensive/shitty/whatever hotels there. I'd also like to add that flooding out a hotel is FUCKING OVER. Yeah, that's right. Over.

Unlimited calling to the U.S. with Skype, that's why!  Doing nonstop destruction pranks to the U.K. would get pricey.  He's been doing this for 2 years now, causing millions in damages in the U.S., and they still haven't gone to arrest him even though everyone knows who he is and where he lives and his voice is in all these calls.  Apparently you can throw rocks at America from Toronto.

It stills blows my mind he hasn't been arrested yet.
But do you have ample parking? That is the question.
