The Monkees performing Touch Tone Symphony
« on: August 22, 2006, 01:57:03 PM »
Someone just emailed me this Youtube clip.  It's the band The Monkees performing "Touch Tone Symphony" on the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour.  It's dated 2/5/1969.  They all have white phones to match their tuxedos.

I didn't realize touch tone dialing existed in 1969.  I thought that was more of an mid 70's kind of thing.  Anybody know when touch tone dialing was invented and/or became popular?  Seems like the joke of touch tone music would be lost on most people back then.

How surreal... I just heard Mickey Dolenz on the radio yesterday, (completely by accident I swear) plugging his new children's book...
But as always, when I see the Monkees, I'm picturing the Beatles doing it instead.  Imagine how widely this would have been circulated if it was the Fab Four finger-prancing.  Still, funny clip.
