9/11 Pager search
« on: November 28, 2009, 01:38:34 AM »
So basically as soon as Wikileaks released the data on the 9/11 pager data, I decided to take it upon myself to create a search-able database. Converting the data from some shitty text files to an SQL database took a bit of work, but now I have a working feature set.

Here it is: http://keyboardcowboy.ca/911search/

Here are some of the stuff I came across:

Quote
Mygoldne queen, my sweet baby, I pray that you rested deeply and dreamed boldly of our life together in Spain wirh David as we do the Lord's work. I have your bag in the office. I love you my first and love

hibaby home from the gym, loving you. dreamt with you lastnight it was more like a flashback of friday i love you see soon

simmisuthar@hotmail.com|howr u?|hi! how are you?saw the news on tv.hope you are fine. take care and don't bother to reply now,you just take care and everything will be fine.we are all with you.miss you. ok?talk to you later, luv, _

Lots of phone numbers and e-mail addresses--it's not unlikely that most of them still work.

Feel free to give any suggestions or features.

That's really cool.  I'd never heard of this before and they're really interesting to read.  So these are messages from people wearing those old pagers that can only receive texts?

Yeah. It also includes data from servers and so forth.

Text pagers are usualy carried by persons operating in an official capacity. Messages in the archive range from Pentagon, FBI, FEMA and New York Police Department exchanges, to computers reporting faults at investment banks inside the World Trade Center

this is sweet, i'm really liking searching through all of this.

Feel free to give any suggestions or features.

An optional “match whole word only” feature might be nice, if possible… meaning, for example, a search for “secret” wouldn’t turn up “secretary”

Also, a way to search more than one whole word at a time.

Like,
"secret" "airplane"

But where it would show a combination of the results for both 'secret' and 'airplane'.

I'll consider the search terms options. I am going to be setting it up so you can narrow down by date, but that requires me to change some stuff in the SQL database, so we shall see.

i second this... searching for interesting terms like ATF or CIA leads to a whole bunch of words where those letters just happen to appear (such as special)

My first search was "OMG" and I got a lot of texts that were "From George" and "From Gary."

Just found this... searching "satellite", "secure", and "carrier" turn up interesting results...

Also:

"threatcon" returns mostly military/government messages

"hijack" returns WTC witness messages

Something interesting here... I searched the word "success", hoping to find something from the hijackers or Al-Qaeda operatives in the U.S., and found a few messages from one person. The field that's marked "Msg ID" seems to be the capcodes of the recipient pagers. I know it's a lot of work, but the ability to search by capcode would definitely be interesting. Finding one compelling message, followed by a search using the corresponding capcode would allow you to effectively lock on to one pager belonging to a government official, reporter, possibly even an al Qaeda operative. Once you've done that, you won't have to sort through all of the other irrelevant messages and find something pertinent.
