If that law gets passed a lot of people will be out of jobs.  Names and Addresses aren’t a big deal in my eyes.  Heck a simple caller id name return, can return the name off of a cell phone or land line phone.  All you need after that is some public record websites and you can obtain a general location and sometimes even an exact address.  Things like Social Security Numbers can vary because you can actually steal somebody's identity with it.

I called a local PI and  talked to him for almost an hour, he told me there are different areas you can get specialize in.  You can:

1. Track people down and get information off of somebody
2. Spy on people and see if they are really disabled or cheating on their wives
3. Get contracted by corporations for general purposes

He said you would probably be doing a little bit of everything but you can become know for something.  I actually conference with him as I demonstrated a call to blockbuster (successfully), and one to the Library (also successful).  He told me that I would have to learn to get other information other than names, phone numbers and addresses.  Mainly Social Security numbers.  He told me that with a Social Security number you can find out almost anything about the person.  Previous addresses, jobs, family, ect.  I've only gotten a few people's Social Security number before, and that has been Social Engineering the numbers out of the people themselves.  I don't really know where else I could get one and he wasn't about to give up his "little secret".  He explained that if I wanted to I could come by one day and "ride along" with him.

You HAVE to do that!  ASAP!  Just so you can write about your experiences with a PI.  That would rule.  Do it immediately!  Did you talk to him about interning?

About SSNs, I've gotten plenty of those from various businesses.  Blockbuster employees don't seem to have access to them.  But other video stores do.  Just about any phone company rep. has access to it.

I think I will drop down there tomorrow and ask him.  He seemed to be nice guy, but kinda creepy.  I think all PIs are creepy but thats just my opinion, I'll fit right in.

If I were looking for something to do long-term, this would not be it.  The days are numbered for private investigators.  Information sources have been under attack by the feds since the late 1980s and even moreso in the 1990s.

Identity theft legislation is going to be a big torpedo.  Ted Kennedy is just waiting for a liberal leaning congress and president.

OMFG!  DDR LOLZ ROTFL!

Yeah I went down to his place on Wednesday.  He looked exactly as I pictured him.  Shady looking, fat, and lacking social skills.  I think I will fit in just perfect!  I stayed for about 3 hours and just kinda followed him around (thats exactly what everybody wants.  z09 following you around).  He would occationally talk to me about what he was doing.  He has 7 people working for him so he just pretty much manages the place.  Everybody works on all the cases but he has everybody doing a sub job.  Like 1 may be the one who calls around and gets unlisted phone numbers and addresses, then one may be the one who organises case files, and one may be the one who follows everybody around.  They pick out of a hat every week to see whos doing what.  The guy told me that he made well over $100,000 every year but thats because he actually manages many people.  Because it is your buissness you can make as little or as much as you want.  He knows retired cops that just want to make a little extra money that make under $15,000 a year.  Then there are people that manage other investigators and handals many cases and they can make a buttload.  So it was an experience.  He told me that if they ever got an opening he would let me know and I could "work for him".
