how do i avoid getting my calls traced, etc?
« on: October 02, 2006, 02:10:17 PM »
i'm curious, what precautions should i take when making calls to protect myself from getting caught?  i know of *67, but that doesn't always work, am i correct?  what kind of methods do you use?  are there any failproof methods for making calls that ensure that i'll be protected/disguised?

thanks in advance for any responces i may receive.

1) Skype - displays "out of area" or bizarre caller IDs to people
2) Prepaid calling card - lots of brands make your call out of area
3) PLA Radio #12 - using the phone company to complete your call

A good idea is to keep people from wanting to trace your calls.  Don't call them more than once, don't make any threats, don't do things that end up involving the police or fire department.  *67 is good for just standard prank calls where you're not really causing problems for the people you're calling.  You just shouldn't call them more than once.  Keep it harmless!

The only failsafe solution is to not do it from your own home. Payphones would be your safest bet. But if you follow RBCP's post, you really won't have any problem prank-calling from the comfort of your parent's basement.

If you are feeling really crazy, you can try spoofing your ANI, but that's beyond me right now.

Oh, I forgot to mention spoofcard.com!  Not only do you block your number, but you also give someone else's number.

Like Brad said simple judgement will keep you out of trouble.  If the person is laughing along with it go ahead.  But if the person gets angry don't call again.  I simply place all my calls through the operator to a calling card.  It cost me $.75 everytime, though.  I also can spoof my caller id which can be fun.  Get a free k7 voicemail account and spoof your number to it and call people without blocking it saying

"Hi, this is Dr. Jackson, the president, the CEO of the Shady Side Locals.  Don't have a gang?  No problem!  With your low monthy payment of $29.99 you can enjoy all the benifits of being a gang member."
