i do not believe that those pedestrian buttons work in most locations.. especially in places like NYC where lights are on timers... perhaps in places where the traffic lights are controlled by pressure sensors to determine if a car is waiting at a red light they might actually do something... but for the most part i doubt that any of them do much of anything...

Pushing a crippled man, woman, or child out in front of you tends to stop cars. Works even faster if you can get a crippled man, woman and child all together and shove them out simultaneously. Whoever said a handicapped person had no use obviously never had to cross the road before.
