Hi, I'm H. Escher from Finland. I'm a shortwave listener and mainly interested in radio, but for some reason stumbled upon Evan Doorbell's phone trip recordings one day and listened them through (all 50 hours...). That's how I got interested in the phone, and indeed realized it even could be interesting. After listening to the phone trips I faced the reality - 21st century Finland, no analog network, no electro-mechanical switches, no pay phones, no in-band signaling, no fun. So perhaps I'll just settle for stalking new recordings by Doorbell, and indeed other phreaky stuff, and learning to control my GSM with AT commands.
