I don't know how it lived, but I had a cactus for 3 1//2 years before I killed it.

And it was one of those cheap $1 on clearance ones from the grocery store.

I bought a cactus in Arizona when I was about four, and I brought it home on the plane.  I still have it today, but it has only grown about three or four inches, and it's one of the cactuses that grow like ten feet in the wild, so I'm gonna asume cactuses don't do so great here in New England.

In the spirit of halloween I bought a book called 100 Creepy Little Creature Stories ($1 table at Barnes and Noble). One of the stories is called  The Cactus by Mildred Johnson.  Its about this cactus that this old lady recieved in the mail from a friend.  It turns out that its an evil alien cactus.  It grows really fast, and grows into what looks like a goat with horns.  All of the old ladies gardening friends admire the cactus.  But weird things start happening to the old lady and she knows somehow that it was the cactus.  She tries to get rid of the cactus and it ends up killing her.  After the lady dies one of her friends takes the cactus and the horror starts again.   


Damn cactuses preying on old people.

So be careful buying those cactuses from Think Geek, they could be alien cactuses waiting to kill you.
