Regardless. The whole social engineering and prank thing is still alive and well; but this is why I say it's far easier to dig through forums than it is social networking sights. At least on a forum if you're much more able to hide your face than in a social networking sight. No, it isn't exactly Fort Nox protection or FBI secret stealth, but it's easier to draw connections within social webrings like facebook and the such. At least in my opinion.
Of course forums are just as open and anyone with interest can view them (Governments, that annoying ass kid down the block), but it feels like it's more central and just a shade harder to draw connections from simply reading posts and comparing them to someone else in another forum with a different email and screen name.
Not that I take part in much illegal anything. This is also really just me saying I hate crawling through the stupid fucking posts in social media in a desperate attempt to communicate or relay an idea on a subject.

Back in the day, no one online knew you were a dog; when you post in a forum, your online identity can be completely separate from your real life identity short of you doing something stupid like threatening the president or something. When you post on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc, the whole world knows that its you, the middle school cheerleader, the high school science genius, the college football star, the grocery store manager, the 7/11 clerk, the hospital cook, the state government official, the U.S. Marine, the CEO of Wal-Mart, or whoever the hell you are. RBCP suggested making a separate account on the social networks for your PLA antics, but the problem with that is that Facebook very clearly has in its policies that people are to have only one account at Facebook, and they will get rid of any accounts they suspect of being sockpuppets. I know this because I've had at least two sockpuppet accounts blocked (well, one was hardblocked and the other one was soft blocked where they insisted on me providing a mobile number to unlock it, I'm tempted to get one of those prepaid phones and use that number just to spite them). People are getting rid of their Facebook accounts right and left. Facebook's stock has been a complete flop, and for good reason. If I post something on Facebook referencing my new employer, they'll likely see it, and they'll fire me if they don't like it per their "Social Networking Policy" (could be an interesting trolling target, make up something else that has the same initials as my new employer and post a lot about it on Facebook, there's a couple of Cs in there, I'm sure we could fit cactus in there somehow).
I agree, bring back BBS, bring back the good old days.
