Sometime this week (maybe tonight) I'm going to reinstall the forums from scratch.  They've been running for a few years now, getting patched and upgraded and modified.  They keep crashing now and plugins aren't working and everything seems like a mess.  So I'm going to delete all the existing files and just start over to see how that goes.

Keep in mind, all the old posts and messages will still be here.  None of that will ever be lost.  And I'll do my best to keep all your avatars and attachments intact.  If all goes well, you won't notice any changes here.  Hopefully a fresh install will fix things around here though.

It's not risky.  Just have to swap a few directories around.  I'm starting it right now.  Avatars and icons might disappear for awhile.  Just hang in there before you start uploading new avatars.  They'll be back.

Can't you just install in a new folder and database  and then if it works rename the folder?

I just made the menu up on top all javascripty, just like on the rest of the site.  Now there's a lot of options there.  Let me know if that fucks anything up for you so I can make excuses on why I'm not going to change it even though you're complaining about it.

Anyone know if there's a way to use PHP to detect if a user's browser supports javascript?  That'd be cool if I could remove or replace the menu if the browser couldn't handle javascript.

Also, are there any other options I should add under the Forums menu?

Not to complain, but is it really necessary to have the forums linked three times?

You're right.  I'll make even more links to the forums!

Please excuse the few broken things.  I fixed some issues tonight while creating more.  Still working on it.

:nonsense: :nonsense: :nonsense: :nonsense: :nonsense: :nonsense:

I just fixed the jumping bunny smiley thing, which was a priority.  I'll get to the Shoutbox and other plugins soon.  Let me know if you notice anything else messed up.

Still no luck fixing the Shoutbox and other miscellaneous Packages.  I really hate SMF sometimes.  Makes me wanna drop $150 on one of those other brands of forums.  If I pay for it, stuff will work, right?

I need advice on our unruly list of 30+ boards on here.  I'd like to consolidate and/or delete a few of them.  There are just too many.  I killed a few of the user boards a few months ago (with permission from the mods in each one) and I've got permission to kill at least one more.  A few of these boards are redundant or just not used enough.  Here are my thoughts:

Sign Hacker - I could probably move most of these posts into the Pranks board.

Lock Picking - Could I move that one into the Hacking/Phreaking board?  Same for the radio board.

Is It Worth It? - This board was awesome on Cal's because Yomama had excellent legal advice for everyone.  It's not so great here because there is no Yomama.  Advice given is just speculation or common sense.  Yomama actually did research and quoted laws for us.

PLA TV - could be merged with PLA Radio since both are rarely used.

PLA Community Sites - I need to give up on this dream.  It worked in the 90's but not anymore.

PLA Issues - combine it with All Things PLA.  Who the hell reads issues anymore anyway.

Buy / Sell / Trade - no posts since October.  That forum seemed to be working so well when I first set it up too.

I could easily kill/merge at least 10 boards in this place.  Tell me what you think and give me some other ideas.
