Changes to the PLA Forums

Just to let everyone know, the forums may go down temporarily today or tomorrow.  At the very most, they'll be gone for 24 hours.  But I'll probably have them back up within 3 or 4 hours.

I changed servers again today.  Same company, but a dedicated server instead of a virtual server.  It should take care of the problems with the site occasionally going down. 

Since the site has a new IP address now, I've been waiting for the "new" site to show up all day.  It finally has this evening, but judging from the new posts that are suddenly here, it happened a lot sooner for others.  So basically there were 2 separate PLA forums today, some people posting on the old one and others posting on the new one.  This means some posts from today are going to be missing.  If you posted something and it disappeared, this is probably why.  (Except for you, Nova.)  I noticed a few things changed around in the shoutbox too.  Just post it again if you need to.

And let me know if you spot any problems!

Soooo...that didn't work so well in stopping the downage.  It's been sucking here lately.  I've been looking through my web page templates today, trying to get rid of excess code and calls to other pages.  I've temporarily taken away the "most recent posts" on all the phonelosers.org pages.  I know this sucks because I use it too.  The problem with those is that every time anyone visits any page on phonelosers.org, it loads all the forum code (multiple pages and calls to other php scripts) just to display those.  This is happening 4,000 or so times a day and I'm wondering if that has something to do with the web site issues. 

I have a question for you members - do any of you use the "X" thing up there on the top-left of the page to get rid of the sidebar on the forums?  Taking that away would reduce a lot of extra php calls since my code is so shitty.  Please reply in this thread and tell me if you would hate me if I took that X option away.  If a lot of people use it, I can work on making the code not quite so stupid.

I only use the READ NEW POSTS thing. I could live without the sidebar if that still appeared but in the menu at the top of the page. Will the shoutbox just go on the main page of the forums now?

The only thing that X is used for on my end is my imagination.
