would that even be possible...how hard would it be to set up a tap to a public phone...and how would you conceal the recording device...out of curiosity of course

That'd be simple.  If its a pay phone on a stand, you've got all the space in the base of the stand to place a tap/recorder in.  If not, you magnetically attach it to the bottom of the phone or you stick it up in the plastic part where the light is.  OR you find where the pay phone wires run to and tap it from there.  Or from the telco can.  Why would it not be possible?  It'd be easier to tap a pay phone than someone's home phone.

I wasn't saying it was impossible..I was refering more toward where you would hide the recording device...i'll have to look at the pay phone again
but I couldn't figure out in my head where it could be put that it would go unnoticed...

When people see things on a telephone pole, they don't. You could write "recorder" on it, and 99% of people wouldn't notice it. Most don't play with telephones, so most don't take much time to check out the box on the pole that might be someone recording them.

I don't mind giving up my freedoms to protect this country.
We can't be pacificts during wartime. I mean look at our current situation with that camel fucker over in Iraq. Pacifism is not something to hide behind.

At what lengths are you willing to give up your freedoms to protect the country?  One thing you have to remember is that you post to a PLA forum and in a country without rights that may be viewed as illegal.  The founding fathers came up with the system for a reason and part of that reason is so that one man/group/branch doesnt have too much power.  Think before you speak so we dont have to keep having this conversation.

Hehe

Except that your chances of being actually killed (or even injured) in a terrorist attack are probably somwehere in the neighborhood of 1 in 1,000,000, or .0001%.

But your chances of having your right to privacy, legal counsel, habeas corpus, your right to a fair trial before your peers, freedom from torture or coersion, etc. being abridged by The USA Patriot Act and other similar recent legislation is 100%.

And history has shown time and again that when a government starts taking away its citizens' individual rights on such a broad scale, they never get restored without a complete change of government.

"... when it means foregoing one 'freedom' for the freedoms of many, I'd say that it is justified.  If the art of survival gets to that critical point it doesn't feel like you're 'giving up' anything, y'know?
But limited government is still the easiest way to live in freedom.  The bigger Uncle Sam gets + the more he dips into our hat, the less likely we are to remember what we started out with in the first place.  It's like a horse... once you put the blinders on, she can't look any other direction.  Come to think of it, I reckon that's why there's so many Islam women walkin' around.  Unwarranted wiretaps... why can't we all be more like the Dude?
And do you have to swear so much?"

Governments and laws do not provide freedoms.

All men are born free.

Therefore, anarchy rules dude.

what a bunch of idiots

take a non serious comment and run with it boys

also what the fuck do you mean how do I define freedom?

what are we saying that freedom can only be real inside of a construct?

Is a utopian society impossible due to mans need to be controled?

ie man can be only be as free as he is told to be
