Phone to Audio Cable?

I was looking through a box of old cables and I found a 6 pin phone cable (like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Videk-Phone-cable-RJ-11-unshielded/dp/B000641RQG) connected to an RCA plug (like this http://www.ethnicdance.net/minidisc/Analog_RCA_Plugs.jpg). Its connected by the blue wire with a white stripe of the phone end to the copper wire on the RCA end, and by the white wire with a blue stripe of the phone end to the red wire on the RCA end.

I was just wondering if this would work for tapping phone lines or something of the such. Or even if this design works
