So basically, there's this school in Massachusettes called the Judge Rotenberg Educational Center where bad parents send their mentally-disabled kids that are too fucked up to go to a normal school. The students have to wear a bunch of electrodes connected to a battery pack 24 hours a day and if they misbehave, they get electrocuted. Some kid, who may have been a student there, prank called the school and, pretending to be a staff member, told them to shock two students for misbehaving. And they did. 77 times.
-
Can I get a judges ruling on whether electrocuting chilidren as punishment is abuse?
-
It was either this or tying them to a fence post and working them over with a rubber hose. That'll teach them to be disabled!
-
In Canada they could maybe get away with it through "loco parentis". It sounds like it makes sense in Spanish better.

Corporal punishment by paddling is somewhat common in regular public schools. 21 states still allow it. Here's some stats for paddling:
http://www.stophitting.com/disatschool/statesBanning.php (http://www.stophitting.com/disatschool/statesBanning.php)
I couldn't find any stats on electric shock punishment, but I didn't search very hard. In my high school, one of our teachers said that corporal punishment by electric shock was allowed in our school and he had done it recently. (This was back in 1988 or so.) He named the maximum voltage he was allowed to administer to students. It was his beginning of the year "don't fuck with me" speech.

I'm all for paddling but electroshock leans a little too far towards torture for my tastes. I can't see any kid doing something that would warrent that sort of punishment and if they did that would be something for the police to handle and not the school. That's just my opinion though.

Yeah, paddling is plenty of deterrent for just about any kid. I think it sucks that they're not using it anymore. Kids are assholes and they need to be hit as much as possible.
-
you know it's sad that they still use the same methods to tame people, as they do to train animals... what's even sadder is that i think i know the prank caller! and he's mentally deranged, and disabled to boot, and lives in the boston area, My own mediocre attempt at humor has been highly amusing to myself.....

I should lurk moar 'cause I really can't tell if you're joking or not. If not I agree with you entirely. Kids are assholes and they should definately be spanked. That's why I'm the "normal, well adjusted" person that I am today. Being spanked is why I never stole any cars or broke people's windows or anything like that. I knew if I did I would get the belt across my ass. I don't advocate child abuse and would never say it's alright to punch a kid or hit them in the face but there's no reason they shouldn't get spanked for breaking the rules. Otherwise they'll never understand that there are consequences for their actions.
EDIT: Fixed my contraction. Not the kind you where you're having a baby. The kind where you smush two words together to make one and use an apostraphe.

whatever happened to those insanely wide paddles they had in catholic schools, i think those are great to bring back in today's society.

Agreed. There is nothing like the threat of stern, painful repercussions to keep a kid in line.

Amen. Other kids laugh at being "grounded", whereas my teenage daughter knows damn well to be home by 8 or she'll get a bare-ass spanking in front of my webcam.

IT'S A WHORE! WATCH OUT!

Yeah the Judge Rotenberg Center has killed a total of 6 people, one of them was a retarded girl who refused to eat; they tried force-feeding her/electrocuting her etc. and eventually she died. It turned out she had stomach ulcers. Oops...
Another one was a 22 year old guy with severe autism. They pushed his head between his legs, handcuffed his hands behind his back, and forced him to wear a helmet that blares static noise at very high volume. Turns out the helmet had a major design flaw; he couldn't breathe while wearing it and died of asphyxiation. Double oops...
The guy who runs the place did all sorts of experiments to find the most effective method of making retards behave, from pinching them to slapping them with a spatula, but he found that electrocution was the best method. Apparently he likes to take the Josef Mengele approach towards behavior modification.
You can read all about the Rotenberg Center here: http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2007/09/school_of_shock.html (http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2007/09/school_of_shock.html)

We should be waterboarding our children. I hear good things about it

I bet the kids at that school are well-disciplined! "Dude, cut it out or the teacher will kill you, just like she killed Steve!" More schools should kill their students. It might seem extreme, but in the end we'd have much smarter kids.
-
Speaking as a fan of eugenics I agree. Kill the dumb ones that you don't breed for menial jobs and breed the smart ones to control everything. HELLO UTOPIA!

When I found out what was going on at the Rotenberg Educational Center, I was absolutely SHOCKED! :D

I'm a kid and I agree with you. I was spanked when I was little and that kept me right in line. Also if we hit kids more often we wouldn't end up with people like Soulja Boy, and I would happily hit a million children in order to make Soulja Boy never exist again.

I agree. We should initiate water torture during lunch in the cafeteria, and not feed these mental people until the punished is dead, any one of them that become impatient has to be the next one getting wet. Eventually they will behave!

You people are getting morbid! Sheesh!
-
Morbid? You're the one with the scary name.

NO YOU ARE! SHE'S A WHORE ON A RAMPAGE!

I'm a big believer in spanking kids when they are being little assholes, but with retards it's different. They can't help but misbehave; they are, after all, retarded.
-
Guess that's why we let you stay huh?

It makes me remembero of DOG FENCING,a system in which a collar with electrodes is weared by the dog,so they dont run away
A CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT FOR HANDICAPED BEINGS...

Handicapped? As if they handily have capacitors to store the next charge?
-
Being handicapped isn't exactly as handy as the name implies.

Except for when it come's to parking.

In my high school the paddling was done in the cafeteria at lunch time in front of the whole school! (Jacksonville, Florida, 1984-89)

My dream is to find someone to be with forever that's just like you. Only with a vagina.

Getting? They've been there for a LONG time...

Ha ha ha, that's such a great idea. I wouldn't dream of goofing off at school if it meant having to perform public acts of BDSM in front of the entire student body.

Not unless you could put an animal suit on first...

My g/f's younger sister has Down Syndrome, and I can't imagine anyone being so inhumane that they would think the best way to keep her in line would be electrocution. This is the sort of thing that should have been phased out in the early 20th century when people were starting to realize that disabled people were, in fact, people too, and they weren't as inherently dangerous as any other person.
Both from her and from working in the school district (I've interned a few times with occupational therapists and as a teacher's aide in classes for cognitively disabled children), I know that many disabled kids honestly can't help themselves. Half the parents are incredibly overbearing and treat their teenaged children like toddlers; 3/4 of the remaining parents seem to have already emotionally disowned their kid. In either situation, this kid is not in a nurturing environment that would allow them to work through their disability, they're generally looked down upon and abused by other kids (and their own parents), and since the educational system in America values its worth based on test scores, jobs as occupational therapists and e.d/c.d teachers are 90% staffed by people who don't give a shit and can't get work anywhere else, 5% by people who care but really shouldn't have their job (because they're incompetent) and 5% by people who actually care about their job and the kids and do it well. It's a pretty sad situation that most disabled children are treated like dangerously psychotic patients and criminals in a hospital, because, no matter what people say, most of them are aware enough to know they deserve better.

Thats offensive to cops. Therefore I shall give it such support, that all of my school shall see it.

That was hilarious. o.o

My own mediocre attempt at humor has been highly amusing to myself.. 6 out of 5 people have a problem with fractions.

I too hate the police. I walked up to one and punched him in the eye. To protect and serve? What a lie.
-
M, you failed us again. He has not gone past 100%. He said 3/4 of the remaining, being 3/4 of 1/2 or 3/8.
3/8 + 1/2 !> 1
6 out of 5 YOU SUCK.

85% of statistics are made up on the spot.
Thank you, Frog, for showing how math can be FUN!

That is kind of an odd punishment for a school to enforce. Why would anyone send their child there :o

That didn't work because they were killing Jews. Who did they expect to do their taxes and run their entertainment industry when they were done?
