We're damn lucky they're dead

"Kurt Cobain was the only guy who ever got it right.  Can you imagine how much he'd suck today if he were still alive?" - RBCP

This just got me thinking. I seem to be thinking a lot, and not sleeping, but it's over 100 degrees in my room (which is fucked up, cuz it's like 70 outside). If all the dead rockers were still alive and making music, would we even want to listen to them?

I have this sinking feeling that Kurt Cobain would be on an acoustic guitar playing concerts with Billy Idol (who is alive, btw) and Art Alexis (who apparently faked his death?) at casinos to draw in the young crowd.

Janis Joplin would have went all conformist or ended up doing mass amounts of product placement (as opposed to blow or heroin)

The dead guy from Smashing Pumpkins, Kobain (again) and Dimebag would be hosting a show on MTV.

Tupoc, strangely enough, would probably stop making CDs if he was alive, which doesn't really make sense to me.

and I'm pretty sure Jim Morrison and Jerry Garcia would have become ministers, Mr. T and Chuck Norris style.

When you think about it that way, I'm glad so many icons and stars were cut down in the prime of their life. Many more, however, should have been, including (but certainly not limited to):
Ozzy Osbourne
Yngvie Malmsteen
Art Alexis
Robert Smith
Billy Idol
David Hasselhoff

... ? I can't think of any more artists that would have been so much better if they would have just died before they peaked. Any ideas?

Some people I just can't imagine not dieing, but Gene Simmonns should be added to that bottom list, his show is like a shitty rip-off of the Osbournes which wasn't good to begin with.

Michael Jackson.  He would be so much more legendary today if he'd died right around 1991 or 1992.  I think it was 1993 when the first wave of child molestation charges hit him.  He completely messed up how great he was in the 80's by becoming the biggest freak in the universe today.

I wonder what Elvis would be up to if he were still alive.  I don't think he'd do many desperate money making schemes because he'd probably be rich for life with all his music and movies.  Maybe he wouldn't be such a bad person to have around today.  Not that I even like any of his music.

It's like MJ then and MJ now are totally different. I watch the thriller video or the bad video and it just depresses me that he has become so odd. He didn't even need to die. Just have him get married and fade into obscurity.

Uh, they don't let you marry 10-year-old boys in America.

Right. Part of him fading into obscurity would be building a large compound in a small shady country where they allow such things.

I think Elvis would be doing all the stupid shit other washed-up musicians do because he'd probably have two or three ex-wives and several children taking most of his money and he'd probably piss the rest away, or eat it.
