What a terrible Jew I am that I don't know what a Small Cap Mutual Fund is.
Dear LordNod,
That's what I'm here for! In "Smart Women Finish Rich" by David Bach, it says that one should always have a little money invested in Small Cap funds, especially if one is young (since they are so volatile). A Small Cap fund is:
A mutual fund that invests primarily in stocks of companies whose market value is less than $1 billion.Small-cap stocks historically have been more volatile than large-cap stocks, and oftenperform differently from the overall market.I am currently invested in the Fidelity Advisor Small Cap Fund (FSCTX). It did only so so for me last yr though.
In any case, I highly recommend everyone start planning for retirement EARLY no matter what your age or occupation or income. Remember, Social Security is meant to SUPPLEMENT one's pension, not become a substitute for it.
Love,
jammie
