AT&T 123A tone dialer internals
« on: February 28, 2007, 09:57:01 PM »
The whole thing seems to be driven by a single IC, accompanied by a capacitor and some SMD stuff too.  No crystals like on the Radio Shack models.  (EDIT: legend said that the blue thing near the IC is a crystal, and it is!)

If anyone wants me to get the specific numbers off the SMD stuff let me know.

The blue thing at X1.
Yep, that is indeed a crystal.  And it's the same value as the one found in Radio Shack tone dialers!

What the hell good does a tone dialer do ya.  Boxing is dead.  Or is it?  Red Boxing is like Elvis.  Is it dead, or is it alive.

A tone dialer does ya nothing, unless the keypad of your phone has shit on it and you want to dial a number. A redbox on the other hand, is still useful in several circumstances.

In Luxembourg the phones on the motorway only have the keys 1 2 and 3, so they're useful there.
