« on: April 06, 2007, 02:07:21 PM »
Dear jammie,

Could you please sweet talk RBCP into adding some more games to the PLA Arcade??

Oh, and how the heck did you get the high score in Braniac?  I have tried a hundred times to beat your score and can't!!

We must knock fr0g out of 1st place!

 *cheers*

Dear Telcogal,

I actually haven't played the games in a while, but I will try and lobby Brad next time he and I chat.  As for Braniac... just to prove the authenticity of my technique, I just beat my high score again... JUST for you.

Basically what I do with this game is I associate the symbol with a word I know... some of the ones I use for this game include "tire" "orange" " donut" "fork" etc...  Then what I do is I click all along the top row and memorize them.  It's not too too difficult to quickly memorize 5 things.  I then click on the rest of the board to find those five things and usually by the time those are gone, the rest of the board is a LOT more manageable.  Also, I notice that a lot of the pieces are right next to each other, so the clicking in order seems to help me a bit too.

Hope you beat my score soon! Down with frog!
Love,
jammie

This SMF Aracde seems to have hundreds of games to choose from and I should be able to take any of them for my own site.  I've searched all over Google and I can't seem to find anywhere that you can just download a few hundred extra games for your arcade.

The official SMF Arcade site only has the games that we already have.  They seem to be completely against using any commercial games.  If anyone else wants to try and find a site for SMF Arcade game downloads, please do!

If you see any games on this site that you want, tell me and I'll install them.

Me and Telcogal?  We generally pass messages between Jammie to communicate with each other.  But occasionally we'll send each other a PM.

How come I can't find them there?  I searched for "smf arcade" "smf games" and "simple machines" but didn't find anything.  I also tried these searches on thepiratebay.org with no luck.  You're talking about isohunt.com, right?

This doesn't include all the 'xxx' 'hentai' or 'adult' games which I'm sure you want.
Do the search for 'flash games' or '.swf'. Nearly any game with the swf extension will work with smf. I don't think they make games especially for smf. I think flash games are either for PC (.exe's), for an html website (no highscore will save on your arcade but the game will work), or made for a forum arcade.

It's hard to say if some torrents are good if they don't list the files. Obviously you don't want .exe's. Another way to get games is to google for a popular game, say 'asteroids.swf' and find other people's games directories.
The google search
The first promising lead of many
You click the game you're interested in. If you like it you go to 'file', 'save page as..' and save it.
That is tedious though so it might be better to look for game directories:
Like this
that let you see the index so you can just right-click and save anything that seems interesting.
After I get games, I do a google image search for small icons that might be relevant to the game and use those if the game doesn't have one.

Edit:
You can also get games from sites like this
by going through the page source to find the address of the swf file and then loading that on a new page and saving it from there. Tedious, I know, but 30k starfighter is fun.

Thanks for the links, mr doc.  I'd really like to stick with SMF-enabled games, though.  I think the cool part of the games is that you can enter your high score and compete against other forum members.

Speaking of that, it seems that some of the new games I installed aren't letting you enter your scores into SMF.  That sucks.  I'll probably remove them soon.  I'll try to get some more SMF games from those web sites.

I concur. You could either copy games individually from other forums since you know those games work, or download and install a whole bunch and check back a week later to see which ones don't keep score and delete them.

Try installing as pnflash or custom and they might work.
