Dear Telcogal,
I was actually in Boston last weekend. I got a last minute room at the Radisson in downtown Boston via priceline.com for a very reasonable price and it was awesome. I highly recommend the Radisson downtown there.
As for stuff to do... if you don't mind walking, the Freedom Trail (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_Trail) is a nice way to get around Boston on a nice day. It was pretty chilly there last weekend, but I am sure the weather is going to be fantastic there soon.
For shopping and some fun street entertainers (and there's a Cheers there... I forget if it's the one that they filmed at or the one it was based on) go to Quincy Market.
I went to the Aquarium... not particularly amazing.
Some good food in Chinatown. I recommend Pho Pasteur.
Also, while I haven't done it, I hear that bowling in Boston is awesome. Like they use weird wooden pins or something.

Have a great time!
Love,
jammie
