What's the better choice?
« on: June 28, 2007, 05:19:54 AM »
Ok let's say you sat up playing video games/milling about all night

It's now 8, 9 or 10 am.

Do you do the sane thing and sleep for a few hours before work? Or the risky double dare challenge attempting to go back onto a normal sleep schedule?

I went with choice A yesterday. I'm starting to wonder if it's time for B.

SO, my question, is staying up ever a good idea?

Dear mrpeanut,

Learn from my mistakes... if it's less than 2 solid hours, just don't go to sleep.  You'll wake up super fucked up.  You'll be even worse if you had any caffeine or sugar.

I remember in High School I took AP Comp Sci and had to code something in Pascal... I stayed up all night trying to do it (because I suck at coding) and took like 2 or 3 NoDoz since I don't drink coffee...  Eventually I went to bed for an hour and a half and when I woke up and hopped into the shower (if you're going to stay up late, you totally need that morning shower) I literally was thinking in code.  I was all "writeln soap, readln soap."  It was surreal and fucked up.  I couldn't get it together for hours.

I will tell you though... I had a friend in the Army who said when he was on long marches, the military would let them have "power naps."  They's sleep for no more than 20 min so they couldn't get in too deep, but they'd wake up much more refreshed.  I've never actually tried this myself, but it might be worth a shot.

Love,
jammie

Dear mrpeanut,

Dude, everyone I've ever seen join the military TOTALLY NEEDED IT.  Seriously, people that were either nuts or doing nothing with their lives.  They didn't stay in it forever, but it did wonders for them.

Love,
jammie

PS - I think of the military like religion... weak people who need something to hold onto/live for to keep them together just tend to gravitate towards organized group-think like religion and the military.  Another reason why they so often go hand in hand.  I totally expect to get ripped apart for this opinion.
