Back in the 1970's WTOG - TV Tampa St Petersburg Florida ran short station IDs featuring local landmarks with jazz music playing in the background. I remember them playing in between shows. Tonight i scoured the web looking for local stations that had old video clips. And I found a site that had the ones from WTOG. One of them was shot in downtown Tampa at night showing the County Courthouse and the largest (only) skyscraper at the time, and the Tampa Theater. It brought back memories. so I replayed it... and then I noticed something that I have never noticed before... on the marquee of the Tampa Theatre... OMG! OMFG!!

Apparently it's a blaxploitation film from the seventies called "The Legend Of Nigger Charlie" that appears on the marquee. I found a trailer for it on youtube.

It seems to be about a group of slaves from the pre-Civil War south who are runaways and decide that they are going to "fight back." There's even a sequel called "The Soul Of Nigger Charlie." It probably never caused a stink because no one noticed or those that did knew of the movie as a film that was shown in theatres. You should be happy you grew up outside of New York and had a local theatre that would show grindhouse films. I wasn't so lucky.
