Skype caller ID

Skype caller ID has always shown something like "0000123456" to people.  For those with ANI, they see some 202 number.  Or maybe it's 212.  Anyway, Skype is somewhat anonymous, which is nice.  But yesterday I was on the phone with some business in South Carolina and the lady chuckles, "Your number shows the weirdest thing on my caller ID.  It says phonelosers.org!"

Phonelosers.org is my Skype username.  How is Skype passing this along?  Is this happening for everyone now?  I called my cell phone from Skype and it says Unavailable.  The caller ID on my home phone is being screwy so I can't call that to try it out.  But WTF.  Even if Skype did display my real Skype phone number, it shouldn't display my username too.  Should it?

Maybe that business was using Skype to save money or some other form of digital service (if that makes any sense at all)? If it's possible to send text as a caller ID over a POTS line then I'm a bit pissed off at all the spoofing companies for not allowing it.

yeah it will show your user name sometimes, ive noticed that too.  I remember the first person to notice that on BinRev forums, he got flamed so bad he had to take a picture of it.  I hate BinRev.  PLA FTW.  Ethermine and I broke down and finally split a spoofcard from spoofcard.com, OMG its nice!

This is awesome because Skype is now a foolproof caller id spoofer. Something tells me VISA Credential Verification is going to be a sought after username.

naw, i think they cover their asses by saving your IP, and infoz you use to purchase the service.. And i THINK it is a 212 number..  Skype is so nice, but when i make calls across state lines theres a lag sometimes thats annoying when you are trying to act important.

Hmm, your incident happened with Centurytel.  Mine was with Hargray telephone.  Both independent telephone companies.

Why not just spoof your IP?

No offense but wouldn't that increase the afforementioned lag? I always get lag whilst spoofing. I see where you're going though. But I would think that they would get your IP every time you connected and not just when you signed up. So wouldn't you have to spoof your IP every time you connected? If I'm wrong please correct me.

Yeah lag sucks. What would be ideal is if you could just use public wifi or somebody else's.
