OKAY SO I TRIED IT and got zapped, damn those ARP requests hurt...

here's what i did:

{victim} <..> {66 Block} <..> {router}  works good.
then:
{beigenet box from MacBook} <..> {66 Block} <..> {router} works well

now: the 66 block has 3 columns (that are connected) then three more columns (connected) and 66 rows.
         The first scenario was set up again, and I had a middle column empty that was tied in with the connection.  I hooked the beigenet box up to it, then communications between the {victim} and the {router} were ok.
          Now as soon as i turned on the ethernet card (ifconfig eth0 up) communications died (but not instantly - I caught about 5 packets with wireshark)

now, as soon as i put the eth0 down, The victim machine came back up!! :S

I was under the impression i could just sniff packets without having an IP, but thats not the case [epic fail]
What happens is the transceiver in the macbook ethernet card interferes with the victims ethernets card transceiver! damn, that would have been cool..

here's a picture (kind of) of the full scenario:

   {victim eth} <...> {66 block} <...> {router}
                                  ^
                                  |
                                  |
                  {macBook (physical MITM)}

works with rj45 and phones (obviously we know that) but not with ethernet :( :( sorry.

[epic fail]

could you hook it up to a Demarcation or TNI on sumn's house?

I have done this with my dads old laptop.

it works just fine.

That is a wild experiment.

Have you tried fooling with the wiring? What happens if you hook up only the two receive wires, or the two transmit wires? What happens if you transpose them like if you were using a crossover? Which side did the 5 packets come from?

i know right!? XD  I did, disconnect a few wires and mangle packets up badly.  The entropy came like 2 or 3 seconds after the macbook ethernet card went up.  the 5 packets came from the victim machine.

yeah i don't see how that wouldn't work, just hope the person doesn/t pick up their phone and here modem breath and look outside to see you standing in the their bushes! XD

yeah, they do...given that you're using their line.  unless they challenge it to the phone company and the phone company decides that they are fraudulent charges, then they might take them off.  don't know how likely that is, though.
RogueClown has been known to cause the following side effects. Smiling, <3ing, dizziness, and the desire to listen to poorly recorded phone mobs. RogueClown is an MAO inhibitor.

I should just take the cover off the box outside my house and tell the phone company I saw some punk kid out there at night and they must be the ones making all the 900 number calls on my bill.

I can tell you a few things.  Your telco will probably not refund shit.  Here is why.  It's typically customers responsiblity the NID is secured.  That is total bullshit because a lot of the LECs refuse to install/move NIDs to the interior.  I guess you could always just move it yourself, but you would most likely be required to re-run the aerial drop yourself.  Can be a bit a pain in the ass.

All I have to say is fuck Verizon, AT&T, and any other ILEC.  I hate dealing with them on shit.
