Sound/Recording problem.
« on: November 27, 2007, 08:51:30 AM »
I use my computer to record tracks and what not. Lately though I'm having a problem. When I try to record (I use Cool Edit Pro) with an instrumental in the track it sounds HEAVILY distorted and I can hear the intsrumental in the recorded track. It has the same distortion when I record without the instrumental there but not nearly as badly. I think the problem is that my playback settings are so that I can hear what's going into the microphone through my headphones but I'm not entirely sure. I know that it's not Cool Edit because it does the same thing in Audacity and Windows Sound Recorder as well. I can't for the life of me remember where the setting is in XP to change it and all attempts at changing other sound settings have had no effect. Can anyone help?

Maybe your instrumental track is set at a completely different bitrate than your other tracks.  I don't know if that would actually cause distortion, but its all I can think of.

It does the same thing with any instrumental track and even without any. I know the problem is a setting somewhere but I can't figure out what it is or how it even got changed in the first place.

On my little home jukebox I have a setting that pumps wave output back into the recorder so that the geiss screensaver can react to the music. I guess you could check that if you haven't already.

It's Control Panel -> Sound -> Audio tab -> Sound Recording Volume button -> "select" checkmarks decide what is recorded

OMG! THANKS ZAZEN! I couldn't for the life of me figure that one out. Now I only have my laziness as an excuse not to record!
