verizon wireless + bluetooth
« on: January 28, 2008, 10:40:23 AM »
did anyone hear that verizon blocks their bluetooth communications from their handsets? so you have to go to them if you want things via bluetooth - and pay them each time. ?? i dont touch anything that says verizon wireless off the record.. my friend asked me about it.  I thought it was a joke until i googled it.

A bluetooth headset will work fine, they just tend to disable DUN(Dial-Up Networking), ie. using your phone as a modem.

I suggest http://www.howardforums.com for all your cell phone needs

well she says she cant recieve stuff via bluetooth like ring tones and themes and such.
she asked the guys in the Verizon store and they said it was locked.  Though, I use an even shittier service than verizon and I can send via bluetooth and receive too, and was also thinking if you can do it that way isnt there emails associated with cell numbers?  so you can send from a phone to an email, and from an email to your phone?  there is with my service provider.. <number>@mms.mycricket.com and sure enough it shows up on my phone.  If this works with veriZon maybe people could use that as a method to by pass the shitty locked down OBEX.

I think my friend's phone (telus, a Kanadian telco) is unable to respond when I send a text via email.

Ah, I forgot, they block that too.

Basically any phone feature that Verizon can block, that causes you to utilize one of their payed services, they will.

you said they blocked it My own mediocre attempt at humor has been highly amusing to myself. okay i will have her try it anyhow. thanks guys. 8) also, if you take the phone into the verizon store and then buy a transfer from them, do they do it with BT or with a wire?  Cos couldnt i just have my macbook in my bookbag with BT packet sniffer running in Ubuntu and catch what they actually do??

just a theory. - thanks again.
