Every place has some. It's something we see everyday and take for granted.

For example, a few days before I moved from Chicago I watched a local television show which I've been watching ever since I was a kid despite its many channel and time slot changes. I also watched other shows with the same actor though I was too old for them just because I was such a fangirl.

The show is called Son of Svengoolie. I didn't realize it until that night how much Rich Koz probably molded my sense of humor. The show would play old, campy horror b-movies interspersed with the intentionally cheesy (meta humor) comedic stylings of Mr. Koz before and after commercial breaks.  Many (every?) shows had a musical number, usually a parody of a popular song at the time. This was the parody that was shown that night:

Then there's the commercial for the local grocery store, Moo n Oink. Yes, the rap is funny and they are way too cheerful, but stay tuned til the end for the money shot.

...and who can forget those Eagle Insurance ads (This is a serious ad which ran for years before they started parodying it themselves.)

Then we moved to Florida. The morning after, I woke up and turned on the television to find blatant abuse of Video Toaster in an infomerical for an appliance wholesaler called Appliance Direct.

oh man, bad Chicago insurance ads.  i was a little late for Eagle-Man, although my best friend [who has lived all his 25 years in Chicago] remembers them from back in the day.  by the time i lived there, they were showing Lincoln Insurance ads, which are almost as bad:

i put the link to the YouTube page between URL tags, and the forum is programmed to take the video and post it here.  i tried the YouTube tag, and it did something really weird (and didn't post videos).  i put them in URL tags instead, and they worked just fine.

this makes me wonder about how the YouTube tags work.

Just drop the url into your post (without tags). I believe RBCP has modded the forum to embed video files automatically.

His commercials, which I remember as far back as my earliest TV memories, aired so often on so many different affiliates that the old 412 area code number for his office was burned into everyone's brain. Paging people with that number was a great form of harassment back in the day...

Rouge, I remember those CHEAP CHEAP FUN FUN commercials very well.  I always wondered why they weren't banned.  Isn't it illegal to market alcohol to kids?  Every kid in the St. Louis area knows that chicken and his catch phrase.

my only guess as to why they're not banned is that they haven't spread past St. Louis, and they're such an institution here...if more people knew about them, they'd probably suffer the same backlash as Joe Camel did.

however, my favourite part (other that the chicken stating "cheap!  cheap!  fun!  fun!, of course!) is when Dirt Cheap Fred says, "the more she drinks, the better you look!  remember to drink responsibly..."  i've never heard such contradictory advice jammed so close together in an advertisement.
